Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly
When a book's introductory chapter poses the question, "Is it possible that there is no one right way to develop one's spiritual life?" you have to assume the target audience has encountered some spiritual bullies along the way. This book by Littauer, a professional speaker, is a pop-psychology spiritual pep talk for evangelical Christians who need to understand that spirituality can include variety. Drawing from her own feeling that she was, at times "doing it wrong, " Littauer has developed a personality test and four "types" for identification, so that Christians can find their fit in spiritual practices. She uses Hippocrates' four basic chemical types; there's the "Popular Sanguine," the "Powerful Choleric," the "Perfect Melancholy" and the "Peaceful Phlegmatic." Much like other typologies popular in church circles—Myers-Briggs and the Enneagram—all Littauer's types feature strengths and weaknesses. She also "types" Jesus, who, not surprisingly, is the perfect balance of all four categories. This book will be helpful for evangelical Christians who feel out of sync with the usual devotional practices being promoted in their churches. It will hold little interest for those Christians who already accept that there are many paths to a deeper relationship with God and need no new typologies to persuade them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Guilt Free Spiritual Growth, February 28, 2006
By Kathryn Robbins (St. Louis, MO) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
By understanding my personality's strengths and weakness, I have come to realize my personality affects more than just how I approach housework, friendships, marriage or parenting - my personality affects all areas of my life including my spiritual growth. In this book I was able to identify how each different personality approaches God, daily devotions and spiritual maturity. It is so important to understanding that it is "OK" to be different from one another. God made us all different so the world wouldn't be monotone - imagine a one-note symphony! This information gives me the freedom to accept God's love for me according to my own personality and in return helped me learn how to give that grace and love to others. Because, life is all about the LOVE.

5.0 out of 5 stars Freedom, March 6, 2006
This book was such a gift to read. It gave me such freedom in my spiritual journey. I always thought that I wasen't spiritual because I couldn't concentrate when I was reading the bible or I didn't have a special "time" when I read the bible. Understanding my personality and how God has made me helped me to realize that I'm fine just the way I am and God loves me no matter what!!! Thank you Marita for writing such an incredible book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book! Christian-based, clear and informative!, May 3, 2009
By Skyy Sutton "skyy777" (Fairfax VA USA) - See all my reviews
This is an excellent book for anyone who is interested in learning more about how your personality influences how one prefers to study and learn about Biblically-based principles. There is no one correct way to learn. Some prefer in-depth individual study, some enjoy a good, fact-based sermon, some prefer group study--it doesn't matter, as long as one learns. I recommend any book that is written by the Littauer family.
