4.0 out of 5 stars Very Hard Yaoi, April 23, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: I'm Not Your Steppin' Stone (Yaoi) (Shameless) (Paperback)
Kazuya wants to impress a girl by taking the high school entrance exam. So he turns to her younger brother Masashi to help tutor him. But Mashashi wants Kazuya for himself and demands sex as payment for the lessons!

When 801 Media announced they would publish hard yaoi, I was skeptical. I only consider it hard yaoi if the sex is graphically rendered (and cones of light had best not be anywhere in the book!). 801 has delivered exactly what they said they would. This manga is Hard yaoi with a capital H! There is hot sex right from the very beginning. I loved Ayano Yamane's Finder series, which was very graphic, but this takes explicit yaoi to a new level. The mangaka goes beyond simple intercourse and depicts sexual acts that I have only read in gay romance. These two even get it on in the bathroom at a movie theatre! Fortunately, the art is very well done. The people are proportioned correctly, there is shading and detail throughout and the men look like men. Everything a hard yaoi fan could want. So, why only 4 stars? The translation.

I had a difficult time in a lot of panels figuring out which man was saying what. There is a LOT of angst in the story, from both boys, and this lack of clear dialog was frustrating at times. The first "chapter" of the story, the boys have sex and it appears just casual on Kazuya's part. But, in the second chapter he is suddenly the reluctant uke, refusing intercourse. I wasn't sure at first if the second chapter was supposed to be a flashback. His resistance continues for another chapter or so before it becomes clear both boys are in love with one another. The story is a very good romance. Masashi is a seme who knows what he wants, but this is still his first relationship and "first time." This is Kazuya's first time with a man, and he already has self-confidence issues because of his lack of education. This naturally leads to tension and more hot sex. When Kazuya's motivations for taking the test are revealed, readers get a great conclusion to a sweet romance.

Overall, I highly recommend this yaoi. The translation by 801 leaves a little to be desired, but it didn't ruin my enjoyment of the book. I will certainly look for more by the mangaka.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sizzling hot! Appealing characters and plot., December 30, 2007
This review is from: I'm Not Your Steppin' Stone (Yaoi) (Shameless) (Paperback)
This is hard core Yaoi. Lots of scorching hot and steamy sex to satisfy, supplemented by an appealing, at times angsy, fast paced and amusing plot.

I enjoy the pairing of Kazuya, the scaffold contruction worker who never finishes high school, and the younger Masashi, an elite honor student. Kazuya thinks he is in love with Masashi's sister. Anyway, he always have a thing for plumb girls. Masashi tells Kazuya he needs to improve his academic background if he is to have a chance with his sister. And who better to tutor Kazuya than Masashi himself. Masashi's payment is of course sex and more sex! I like both boys and enjoy their evolving relationship as they dance around each other. Kazuya is Masashi's first but it sure does not show :) This 17 year old elite student knows what he wants and it is Kazuya. Kazuya may have sex with girls before (5 to be exact) but now he is totally messed up. Love the ending.

Great artwork. I like this Mangaka's drawings of her tall and muscularly slim guys. Just have to chuckle at her girls with their "various chests". The side characters of Masashi's plumb sister and Kazuya's construction site buddies are enjoyable too. To top it all this is one continuous story which get bonus points from me. Definitely looking forward to "Maybe I'm your steppin' stone", a spin-off on one of Kazuya's buddies. Another great release from 801Media.

5.0 out of 5 stars I'm Not Your Steppin' Stone by Shiuko Kano, March 18, 2008
This review is from: I'm Not Your Steppin' Stone (Yaoi) (Shameless) (Paperback)
Sakai has a passion for well endowed women, really if you look at them they border on the fat type, but everyone has his taste... And when he falls in love for Izumi's sister, it's with his great regret that he is informed that the girl only dated well cultured men, and Sakai is a drop out from school who works as construction worker. But Izumi makes a bargaign with him: he will help Sakai to pass the test for college's admittance and Sakai in exchange will have sex with Izumi.

Even if Izumi has never had before a gay relationship, he is very willing to go on with the bargain: it's only sex, isn't it? But when he realizes that maybe he is more involved of what he thought, he chickens out and tries to break with Izumi. But Izumi is not willing to let go.

In comparison to other Shiuko Kano's manga I have read, this one is very explicit: it's like, since the relationship started as a pure sex thing, that the drawning needs to be more explicit and less romantic. And also the style is a pretty more "comic" and less "realistic". I like a lot Izumi's looks, and a little less Sakai's. Most of the time Sakai is too extreme, but sometime I can see an almost naivee's looks in him.

A manga very explicit which manages to be also funny and lighthearted.

5.0 out of 5 stars The hard core stuff baby, January 2, 2008
This review is from: I'm Not Your Steppin' Stone (Yaoi) (Shameless) (Paperback)
Let me tell you, this book isnt for those of you who only want the light stuff, or for those who arent even sure if they like Yaoi. This book has basicly full drawn pictures, and lots and lots and LOTS of sex.

It starts out with our main character Sakai Kazuya, falling for Ezumi Masashi's sister, but when Ezumi finds this out after Sakai ask's him if she is dating, Ezumi says that she wouldnt go for an uneducated guy. So Saki vows to take the test to graduate high school to prove he is worthy of her. Ezumi offers to tutor him, and in payment Sakai basicly gives sex, or stuff like that. Ezumi finds himself in love with Sakai, and let me tell you this guy is like a dog, he can't seem to control himself when it comes to Sakai.

Sakai on the on the other hand is bit slowly and doesnt seem to realize that the stuff he is doing for Ezumi is sex stuff. But some how the whole thing works out, but Ezumi is very possesive and can be very cute in his actions at times, strange as they me seem to the reader and poor Sakai. But I enjoyed this book and I hope that you die hard Yaoi readers will too. Believe me when I say that this book gets steamy on barely the first few pages of it. Once you read this it will be hard to go to the light Yaoi.

4.0 out of 5 stars I like 'em smutty and this one delivers!, November 6, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: I'm Not Your Steppin' Stone (Yaoi) (Shameless) (Paperback)
I'm Not Your Steppin' Stone is about Kazuya Sakai, a 23 year old uke construction worker and Masashi Ezumi, a 17 year old seme high school student (seems like the roles are a bit reversed but it works!). Kazuya is in love/lust with Masashi's sister, Natsuko and asks for Masashi's help in winning her over. Masashi points out that since Kazuya is a high school drop out, she'll never be interested in him. He offers to tutor Kazuya so he can take the test and get his degree (think G.E.D.) but in return, Kazuya has to offer himself to Masashi as payment.

Ok, so let's get to the good stuff. I love this book (and it's follow up Maybe I'm Your Steppin' Stone) because of two big reasons: (1) there are lots of pages (206 in this volume) and (2) it's 206 pages of plentiful sex. How plentiful? I counted 11 sex scenes in total and that doesn't include flashbacks, one sided sex or dream scenes. The scenes are graphic (full genitals) but screened in a way that doesn't make it overly in your face (but still detailed enough!). The story is fun, funny, graphic and a must have in your collection. As far as the book's construction, it has a nice dust jacket, one color page in the front and the illustrations I would rate as about a 3.75 out of 5; not the best work I've seen but not to the point of being distracting either. There are times when the speech bubbles were a little hard to follow so it may take a second read through but it didn't overly detract from the story, which in and of itself, is still interesting.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hot hot hot!, March 16, 2008
This review is from: I'm Not Your Steppin' Stone (Yaoi) (Shameless) (Paperback)
I love Shiuko Kano's books because she always manages to create engaging, sexy stories. "I'm Not Your Stepping Stone" is no exception, and this time around she combines a romantic and fun plot with some of the hottest sex scenes I've seen in yaoi manga yet.

Do NOT hesitate to pick this book up! The characters are great, the artwork is stunning, the pages sizzle, guh...read it. Enjoy it. Then read it again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Humorous Yaoi, November 1, 2008

This review is from: I'm Not Your Steppin' Stone (Yaoi) (Shameless) (Paperback)
This series is hot, delightfully surprising, and has a dash of comedy to top it off. Anyone that wants to break away from your typical soft core shounen-ai obsessions will find a title that has more detailed sex scenes and a solid plot. This is only one of the books of this series. It's most recommended to buy and read them both. The book is packed with art. There is no detail that I disliked.

4.0 out of 5 stars oh Boy, July 16, 2008

This review is from: I'm Not Your Steppin' Stone (Yaoi) (Shameless) (Paperback)
Well this is my third title from Shiuko Kano and this one is definitely on the hard core .Everytime this two character are together, it is a f*** fest, maybe the mangaka was pressured to have more s** in this title. It is pretty much XXX rated. The illustrations on the "bed scenes"are very explicit. And I agree with the author that Masashii is the most perverted teenager so far.
Character development wise and story not as strong as compared to the other titles ie Kiss all the boys and Yakuza in Love, but as I read the manga again, the characters start appearing strong and deep.Strange.
I like the drawing style but The cover is the weakness.

5.0 out of 5 stars Step Right On Up, June 4, 2008
This review is from: I'm Not Your Steppin' Stone (Yaoi) (Shameless) (Paperback)
Maybe I'm Your Steppin' Stone (Yaoi)

The younger seme (Ezumi Masashi) and older uke (Sakai Kazuya) is a concept I've recently gotten behind....that is thanks to this manga. Reading the reviews, you are well aware of the plotline, but the chemistry between the characters is most important to note. And let me tell you, there is CHEMISTRY!

The artwork is great, especially the details given to the eyes and lips. During those most intimate moments, it is most intense. I think everyone will let out a squeal during the tryst between Masashi and Kazuya when Masashi drives Kazuya so wild that he's literally biting the sheets. *WHEW!* Yes, moments like these make me love this manga ever so much.

But, smut alone doesn't make this manga top notch. The storyline is great and it grabs your interest. You really care about the characters and root for them to have a happy ending. I'm looking forward to the spin-off manga, unfortunately not about these characters, "Maybe I'm Your Steppin Stone".

My only problem is that the link to digicomic.net is no longer operational, that is a let down once you read the Club Dandy section.

5.0 out of 5 stars Shuiko Kano knows what we want!, January 22, 2008

This review is from: I'm Not Your Steppin' Stone (Yaoi) (Shameless) (Paperback)
I've read this one many, many times, I've even listed to the drama cd which is 10 times better (that Masashi sure sounds sexy ^^)
The plot is fast paced, but it does not leave you feeling deprived in any way... at all, very hot and steamy sex in about 1/3 of the book (which is a lot) and the characters are very well drawn and easy on the eye ^^. I recomend this one hands down, as well as any other of Shuiko Kano's works.
