5.0 out of 5 stars How to make the most of your time together as a couple..., January 15, 2007
By
firsttimemommy (Washington state) - See all my reviews
I was a little doubtful when I first started reading this book. I have read several other books by the author, Les & Leslie Parrott, and I have gained a lot of insight from them. I am a stay-at-home mom and I have a lot of time on my hands not consumed by a workplace, but my husband and I have a shortage of quality time together.

This book guides you thru a process of identifying which time gets most of your attention (the present or future) and how you relate to your time (subjectively or objectively). There is also a free online survey you take to help you determine which of four different types you are. I never thought of the differences in the way people view time, but I can see where it leads to many arguments in a marriage relationship when you're married to someone who may have an opposite view of time than yourself.

The four types of time styles are- the accommodator, the dreamer, the processor, and the planner. They also list strengths and challenges for each type, to help you with your awareness of what you may need to work on. At the end of the book is also a section for each type of relationship, depending on what you and your spouse are, and how you can use your differences to enhance your marriage.

There really aren't any other books out there like this one. If you feel disconnected with your spouse and life seems to be pulling you in opposite directions, read this book. To take a quote from the book: "We may say that our marriage comes first, but that doesn't matter if we devote our time to what's lower on our list. Saying it's a priority and making it a priority are two different things."

We are using this book for a small couples book group. There is a DVD that goes along with it that has been really fun to watch. We are all enjoying the book and the reminder to pay attention to our spouses so that we don't miss eachother in the midst of all the business. Highly recommend it!
