4.0 out of 5 stars MLC's second big leap.
This album is a perfect display of MLC's progression over the years--from their extroverted rage fueled debut, to the introverted alienation and hopelessness of "Not Like Them"--to developing their own voice. Now, in their latest album, you can hear just how they've grown; trying to leave the past behind, and move on. As such, there is a definite sense of...

As I see it, Your Vision was Never Mine to Share suffers from two very distinct problem. First, is that the anger and energy that marked the band's first two releases has been lost. We see hints of it in songs like When Everything Dies, but only hints. There are no songs that can compare to tracks like Sonic Attack, or Infected, or Prove Me Wrong. The second is...

This review is from: Your Vision Was Never Mine to Share (Audio CD)
This album is a perfect display of MLC's progression over the years--from their extroverted rage fueled debut, to the introverted alienation and hopelessness of "Not Like Them"--to developing their own voice. Now, in their latest album, you can hear just how they've grown; trying to leave the past behind, and move on. As such, there is a definite sense of calm self-affirmation, the likes of which could before only be heard in their heaviest, rage-filled moments of defiance.

But in this process of maturation, of self-discovery, something seems to have been lost (probably for the best). The force has grown to a great degree. Here, the music is more grand, hard-hitting, though lyrical clarity has dropped slightly, as has the energy that the first two possessed.

But it's still a great album. The first two tracks are easily some of MLC's best work. The album then seems to drop a bit tracks three through six, but it quickly picks itself back up at a near perfect seventh track.

But these are merely matters of taste--I am more attuned to angry and melancholy music--and even though their attempt was a bit hard for me to swallow at first, and may put off people used to what MLC was in 95, it's still a great album, and MLC is still one of the best out there.

The second is that the songs tend to blend together, and there are only a few moments in the album that really stick out. Is it worth buying? Yes, I believe so, if you liked either of the first two albums. If you have never heard Misery Loves Co. before, this is probably not the best album to start with.

4.0 out of 5 stars heavy mood, September 22, 2011
This review is from: Your Vision Was Never Mine to Share (Audio CD)
To put it simply, this is a heavy version of the Cure, circa Faith, Pornography, Disintergration. There is less of of the heavy vocal stylings from earlier albums but a lot more mood. Like the Cure albums previously mentioned, this is an album that is best enjoyed as a whole, and in saying that I think all songs are enjoyable.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Stuff, February 21, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Your Vision Was Never Mine to Share (Audio CD)
This is the kind of thing I'm always looking for...industrial tinged heavy rock with a seething wall of guitar, and still textured and cleverly done. Far better than most of the detuned sludge style bands out there.

I don't know about the negative review here...haven't heard this band's earlier stuff, but this record is great. Very heavy and still musical and melodic. Dreamy and hypnotic at times and very powerful. Well done.

No, it's not an angry-angry-angry for the sake of angry project. Just good music, lots of noise and energy, with good songs.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Final Hoorah, November 24, 2006
This review is from: Your Vision Was Never Mine to Share (Audio CD)
This cd becomes more musically ambient than the previous two releases. The opening track reminds me (slightly) of Type-O but if you follow the albums up to this point... the theme of this one is definitely akin to being *sick* of being depressed. There's songs about giving up, letting go. For anyone who says there's no anger though, just listen to the final track: "Everything Dies." Personally I would have set that song to be the first track and "Your Vision was Never Mine to Share," as the final track... that's a nitpick though. This album has much more singing than any of the two releases.

Best track by far would have to be "Rise and Fall" followed by a close second of the aforementioned "Everything Dies." (Neither one is anywhere like the other.)

The others are right in stating that this is the *most* underrated swedish metal act (that is now defunct.) It's sad, as Patrick's next band, Alfa Safari just doesn't do anything for me. I can understand though, if you're sick of writing depressing music, and you can't recreate that muse in your head, better to quit while you're ahead.

5.0 out of 5 stars Broken up but not forgotten, April 24, 2006

This review is from: Your Vision Was Never Mine to Share (Audio CD)
Misery loves co other releses like misery loves co (industrial/thrash) happy ep(brilliant live tracks) and not like them(doom influence).
This album is very mellow and melodic and dark with some of my favorite lyrics on songs such as rise and fall and when everything dies.
Sadly they did a tour and split up soon after this relsese and i never seen them live.
This album will stay fresh for a very long time because it was head of its time i think.
Misery loves co the most underated band of all time and if read my review and you are new to them check them out becuse misery loves co are great.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not the best Misery Loves Co album, October 31, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Your Vision Was Never Mine to Share (Audio CD)
I agree with the previous reviewer. This album lacks the anger and the lucid lyrics of the previous two. As I listened to this album, it sounded like MLC had softened in their two compared to Not Like Them. Also, the songs did seem to blend together and were not as varied as Not Like Them. Overall, I still like this album, but if you are new to MLC, then I suggest trying their previous two releases.

5.0 out of 5 stars One Of The Best CDs I've Ever Bought, October 15, 2001
This review is from: Your Vision Was Never Mine to Share (Audio CD)
this is an absolutely incredible cd. a change for the better. i didn't get too into Misery Loves Co. until just a few months ago, i have to admit. i heard the song "rise and fall" tho, and i was amazed. this is a perfect cd. the musical arrangements are simple, but great, proving that good writing can be better than being overly technical. i'm just getting into their older stuff now. i just downloaded "i swallow" from the self titled cd actually, and it's really good. i'll pick it and "not like them" up if i can find them. i like this, but i like the stuff on "your vision was never mine to share" better. anyways, if you're a fan of industrial music with dark and depressing lyrics and music, i'm guessing you'd like this quite a bit. the cover of The Cure's "the drowning man" on this cd is reason enough to get it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Stay far far away!!!!, February 20, 2001

I love Misery Loves Co, the self title album is still one of the best albums I own, I liked Not Like Them, still intense and angry even if a little slow, not this CD, well the first thing I did was look at the lineup to make sure it was the same band! It is horrible, lacking the intensity, lacking the anger, definetly lacking speed, it just ..., and all the music blended, I went to their web page and saw they broke up citing lack of support from the label, with ... like this i wouldnt support them either.
