Nam is not for the Faint Hearted.,

Weak kneed, left wing, doves should avoid the reality of the portrayal of the life of Myers and the Marine comrads he so eloquently shares with the reader. This is not a sugar coated documentary of all that is right with our military strategy on the ground , in day-to-day life of combat Marines, but the true story of how these Marines prevailed in spite of the strategy. Anyone who ever hold a position of leadership where conditions are extremely difficult must read this book. Only a few books ever capture the reality of war, this is one of them. A must read.

This book took me back to c/1/12, to the very places I had been, I did't know SSgt Meyers, but I think I was there while he was. Super book, thanks for putting our Battery story in print.

An outstanding contribution to Vietnam War studies.,

This review is from: Your War, My War: A Marine in Vietnam (Paperback)
In Your War, My War: A Marine In Vietnam, Sergeant Donald Myers shows us the chaos and hysteria that was the hallmark of active combat in the Vietnam War. His memoir begins on October 30, 1967 when he arrives at Gio Linh and spans sixteen months of lethal combat and mind-numbing drudgeries of military life in a combat zone. What makes Your War, My War unique and distinctive from other Vietnam biographies is that each chapter represents a day's journal entry, juxtaposed with American newspapers that coincide with the entries, enabling the reader to envision the contrast of the American political and journalistic structure versus a day at battle. This contrast of the reality of Vietnam with the Never-Never Land perceptions back home is particularly jarring and informative. Your War, My War is a highly recommended and much appreciated contribution to the growing body of literature on the American military experience in Vietnam.

One of the Finest Vietnam War books written,

This review is from: Your War, My War: A Marine in Vietnam (Paperback)
As a Vietnam Veteran, I have read SSgt Myers' Book a several times and each time getting more and more out of it. His writing puts the war into the perspective of being in the middle of the action, no hiding of the facts,no sugar coating the raw language of war, plain and simple this is how it was. For me, "Your War, My War" brought back a flood of memories, some not so good but most the memories of the bonds formed by men fighting for one another and sharing the horrors of war, yet maintaining their sense of humor, although warped at times. Few realize the love formed between the men fighting and trying to survive another day, we became family and we looked out for each other. As a Platoon Sergeant, Sgt Myers was part of the head of the family and the loss of one member of that family was like losing a part of himself. This book shows how war really is and the people who spit at us, called us foul names, and the Jane Fonda's should read this book. Although the book is about the Marines, it shows the devotion to duty, country, god, and each other of all Vietnam Veterans, no matter what brach of the military they served. We never lost a major battle and won over 99 percent of all battles, yet we were looked down at as losers. We were treated as losers not only by Americans who knew little of war but by many who served in WWII and Korea. This book helps clarify who truly lost the war, it wasn't those who fought, bled, or died. It was said Vietnam was a war without heroes, read the book and you will fine you are living amongest the heroes and when you visit the Wall, you will read the names of the heroes of Vietnam. I have had the honor of serving with SSgt Donald F. Myers and I am honored and proud to call him my friend and brother Marine. I would rate this book as one of the best books ever written about the war in Vietnam, not because of my friendship with SSgt Myers but as a Vietnam Veteran, this book bluntly tells what it was like, the heat, the constant fear, the unbearable marches, and the desire to win a war we were not allowed to win. What a movie this would make. Semper Fi

This book should be required reading for all marines and other U.S. military, including officiers. This soldier writes with his gut and what he says is true. He lived it.I am suprised noone has the guts to put this book on film, instead of the milk toast the movies put out. You do not have to be military to respect the man and believe in our country as he does.
