Sharon has always advised brides and grooms to prepare for the marriage, not just the wedding, and all of her books focus not just on planning details like designing a wedding cake or choosing a gown, but on the *relationships* that build between the couple and their in-laws, the relationships that may change between the couple and their single friends, and the relationships a couple can create between themselves and their wedding vendors. Weddings may be stressful to plan, but they don't have to create stress in your life. Sharon Naylor's 25+ years in the wedding industry have exposed her to so many different personality types trying to work together, she knows the kinds of clashes that can happen and she advises against every type of planning or communication mistake. The goal is, of course, a beautiful and personalized wedding day, but Sharon Naylor wants you to *enjoy* the process with the positive people you know, always taking the time to think about what's going *well* instead of what's still left to do or what's disappointing.
Sharon Naylor says she gravitated to wedding world because it's comprised of all of her favorite things: travel, gourmet food, floral design, fashion, photography, dance...and most importantly the gathering of far-flung friends and family to celebrate a happy occasion.
A recent newlywed, she lives in Morristown NJ with her husband Joe and she is currently the wedding spokesperson for several high-profile corporate brands.
This book was a great wedding reference guide. All wedding books I've read were traditional which did not suffice my needs. Whereas this book allowed me to gain ideas for nontraditional ideas. This book also prepared us how to budget visiting all tables/guests meanwhile enjoying the party ourselves.
Lastly, this book had great info on rehearsal dinners and the morning after brunch that most wedding books exclude. The wedding was an absolute blast, surpassed my expectations, and I have this book to thank.
I bought and read this book and passed it along to a friend who's getting married again (for the third time!).
There's tons of free info available about weddings, particularly online, but 'Your Wedding, Your Way' is an outstanding resource definitely worth its purchase price literally a thousand times over. It gives the kind of advice you'd get from hiring an experienced wedding planner -- kind of like a planning-your-wedding Bible.
If you want a unique wedding -- maybe a "Shakespeare in the woods" theme, for example -- this book helps you create a fabulous event (and stay on budget!).
Even if you've been a bridesmaid more times than you'd like to remember or you've been down the aisle once or twice before, 'Your Wedding, Your Way' is packed with great ideas and information: Sharon Naylor shares experience and perspective with pearls of wisdom to help create a one-of-a-kind celebration for your day.
I really, really enjoyed reading 'Your Wedding Your Way' by Sharon Naylor. My friends had read a few by her before and really liked them so when I started planning my wedding they recommended this one specifically. Upon planning my wedding I encountered a dilemma when I found myself wanting to stray from the 'traditional' wedding. I was struggling with not wanting to upset my family and mother-in-law by breaking with tradition but this book helped me garner the confidence to really plan the wedding I knew was what I wanted, as well as worth my money. While reading this book, I felt that Sharon Naylor really knew what she was talking about and that she could genuinely relate to what I was dealing with. I also love the quotes/testimonials she includes from fellow brides-to-be as well as the blank lines that gave me a chance to jot down some notes on the topic. I also found myself using the sources in the back of the book a lot while planning my wedding- she includes them for all different things such as Gowns, Shoes, Accessories, etc. Really loved this book! Look forward to recommending it to other friends of mine! thanks!
