5.0 out of 5 stars The one RV book you must have
My wife and I found this gem on Amazon shortly after we bought our first 5th wheel.

While the author emphasises on fifth wheel travel and use, her book applies to other RV rigs about as well.

We've read other books that purport to be helpful to those new to RV's or just new to fifth wheel's, but none even remotely as knowlegably or effectively written.

1.0 out of 5 stars Poorly written and not useful - save your money
As a new RV owner, I was very eager to purchase this book and two others so I could become familiar with the terminology and learn about how to use and take care of my RV. After reading The RVer's Bible (by Kim & Sunny Baker) and RVing Basics (by Bill & Jan Moeller) first, I was thoroughly disappointed with this booklet. The other two books are very detailed, well...

We've read other books that purport to be helpful to those new to RV's or just new to fifth wheel's, but none even remotely as knowlegably or effectively written.

Having enjoyed 21 years in our 24' motorhome, and 3 years in a 35' trailer forty years ago, we aren't new to the pleasures or potential problems of RV's. Yet this is one book we've both read several times already and it has a permanat place in our new rig's library.

If you don't have it already, buy it!

(No, we've never met the lady and don't work for her publisher, either. But we hope to run into her one day so we can say "thank you!" properly).

The other two books are very detailed, well written and I give them high marks. However, this booklet is very basic, skims over most topics and is sprinkled with so many grammatical errors I had to toss it in the waste paper basket. Fortunately, a co-worker told me about the awesome Amazon.com return policy, so all was not lost. Save your money and buy the other two books!!

5.0 out of 5 stars BEST SELLER, SUPERB RESOURSE, December 27, 2000
By
This review is from: Your Home On Wheels, a Beginners Guide to Part Time or Full Time RVing (Paperback)
Your Home On Wheels, a Beginners Guide to Part Time or Full Time RVing, by Carol Ray. For the beginning or aspiring RVer, this self-published book by avid RVer Carol Ray is a superb resource. The book is so good and so helpful that it's one of Amazon.com's top 2,000 best sellers, a major accomplishment for a self-published book. It's chock-full of good information, based on Ray's extensive RVing experiences. Even veteran RVers will learn a lot. We highly recommend this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't pass this book by!, July 17, 2000
By
This review is from: Your Home On Wheels, a Beginners Guide to Part Time or Full Time RVing (Paperback)
This was the first book and the BEST book I bought on RV life. Carol Ray writes as if she were your best friend speaking with truth and honesty.

Her advice on picking a dealer and dealing with him on your RV sat inside my head while working on my order. I wasn't afraid to ask for more, to ask for different, to ask and ask again. And I got all I asked for, got all those EXTRAS and I walked away from the table the winner.

My trailer is coming fully loaded and I'm not paying a penny more then the original asking price. My husband said not a word at the table...just listened as I went down my list of wants and needs. Which I would not have had had I not taken the time to read Ms. Ray's book not once, but twice! I found the book easy to read, so I read it again to make sure I got everything she wrote and spoke about inside me.

Ms. Ray saved me over $2000.00 in extras and because of that my life on the road will be much smoother to get used to. Thank you Ms. Ray for taking the time to share your ideas, and to do the research you did.

5.0 out of 5 stars THE PAGES ARE ALREADY WORN!, November 28, 2000

This review is from: Your Home On Wheels, a Beginners Guide to Part Time or Full Time RVing (Paperback)
This book has been a wonderful and valuable tool for me. I am a single woman and have always dreamed of being able to travel and live in an RV. Carol's book has given me everything I need to know to get started, from the kind of clothing I will need to how to keep things in the cupboards from falling on my head after a period of traveling. I have taken the book with me to RV dealers, department stores and RV stores. The pages are already worn from use. I recommend this book to anyone who is even thinking about getting started.

5.0 out of 5 stars The "Newbies", September 30, 2002
By
Ann Fogal (Strongsville, OH United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Your Home On Wheels, a Beginners Guide to Part Time or Full Time RVing (Paperback)
Upon receiving this book by Carol Ray, my husband and I immediately opened it with much enthusiasm. We couldn't put it down knowing full well we were onto the next adventure in our lives. It was so plainly written that even "we" could understand it. Being in the airline business, my husband a pilot and me a flight attendant, we are so looking forward to seeing the US by driving instead of at 35,000 ft.

We feel that we are fairly educated and whoever didn't like this book, must not really be interested in RVing. When we went to do negotiations at the dealership, I had highlighted quite a few things. As I told the salesperson, "I've been doing my homework," of which they all replied, "Oh, not another one." I took that as a compliment to myself as well as to Carol.

To make a long story a little shorter, we walked out of the dealership with a bare bones price of 60,000, getting everything and every option available but a w/d, that we will install later, for 45,500.

WE THANK YOU CAROL. Don and Ann Fogal aka FOGAL"S FIVER

5.0 out of 5 stars Your Home on Wheels, December 1, 2003
By
This review is from: Your Home On Wheels, a Beginners Guide to Part Time or Full Time RVing (Paperback)
My husband and I came across this book by accident, and as brand new RV'ers it has become our bible! Out of all the "helpful" books and magazines, and personal experiences, this book has covered all we needed to know and then some; right up to the decision to sell our home, what type of RV to buy, which pickup to purchase and what to take along, as well as where to go, how to set up and how to break camp. We have found every piece of advice to be accurate, and would recommend that every RV'er have a copy of this, whether they are just beginning or are long time travelers.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money., July 20, 2006
This review is from: Your Home On Wheels, a Beginners Guide to Part Time or Full Time RVing (Paperback)
I bought this book 3 years ago right after we bought a motorhome. Now that I have become a seasoned RV'er, I can tell you that this book is extremely outdated (published in 1999) and simply one woman's personal opinions. Almost everything in this book is common sense and recollections of what she and her husband did traveling in their 5th wheel and truck. Save your money and put it toward a subscription to Motorhome Magazine or Trailer Life. You will get up-to-date and accurate information there.

My husband and I are about to retire and decided we wanted to purchase a 5th wheele and travel. We purchased this book because it stated it was a "beginners guide". I am really thankful we did. It has already saved us from making some big mistakes. There are so many helpful hints and ideas. The book was written in such a way, you feel like a friend wrote it. It is easy to read and understand and written in simple language a beginner can understand. It is an excellent book.

Carol Ray's book is not only what every RVer needs. If you an RVer and you don't buy this book it is like going fishing and not bringing a fishing pole. Well-written, illustrated with great stories, the book ought to be in the glove compartment of every RV on the road.
