Book Description

February 16, 1999
Taking the saying "Your wife is not your momma" as the title of his book, Bishop Wellington Boone offers sound advice to the married man who wants to improve his relationship with his wife, and to the woman who wants to see a change in her man.  It is the ideal guide for those who want to have a little bit of heaven in their home.

Boone's message is a simple one: Put God first and serve your wife as Jesus served the Church.  By using your relationship with God as the model for your marriage, you put yourself in a position to love and, in return, be loved, thereby creating a fulfilling and rewarding home life.

Boone shows what works, why it works, and how to apply it to your own life.  No matter whether you are single, divorced, newlyweds, or celebrating a silver anniversary, this book offers important counsel on the critical issues that must be resolved before getting married; how to prevent problems with your spouse and children; and how to avoid being an outlaw instead of a beloved in-law.

Filled with do's and don'ts, tables and checklists, questions to work through, Bible references, and reflective prayers, Your Wife Is Not Your Momma is an invaluable resource for anyone who wants to enjoy the rewards of a God-centered relationship.

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

Boone (Breaking Through), a nationally recognized pastor and speaker at Promise Keeper rallies, paints an engaging portrait of God's master plan for marriage relationships. The message is simple and, although directed at husbands, is for everyone, married couples, singles and divorcees. Foremost, we need to know who we are in God, and from that we can conclude who we are to be in our marriage: "When you become a husband, your calling is to represent Christ, and your wife's calling to represent the church." If this is the premise for a healthy and spirit-filled union between God and humanity, the author contends, then any outside factor that is not a part of God's master design is unacceptable. No physical marriage is immune to conflict, trials and temptations. Hence, Boone encourages husbands to stay faithful to God's teachings and examples. He calls marriage "your most important training program for the next stage of life." Boone urges husbands to love their wives unconditionallyAto love her beyond her faults, to develop a strong prayer life together, to honor and respect their parents and to seek God's vision for their home. Drawing on flavorful testimonies, Bible references and prayers, Boone encourages and challenges readers to strengthen their godly marriages.

Publisher's Weekly review of Your Wife Is Not Your Momma (Doubleday)

Bishop Wellington Boone, "a nationally recognized pastor and speaker at Promise Keeper rallies, paints an engaging portrait of God's master plan for marriage relationships. The message is simple and, although directed at husbands, is for everyone, married couples, singles and divorcees."

Your Wife Is Not Your Momma will be released in a Second Edition by APPTE Publishing in July 2010 in response to popular demand.

Publisher's Weekly review of Low Road to New Heights (Doubleday; WaterBrook Multnomah)

"This slim book is full of useful hints, designed to help readers actually follow Jesus' example of humility. . . . But this is not merely a religious how-to. Boone also threads musings on biblical stories throughout. . . . He draws on more recent historical personages, such as Harriet Tubman, in showing that humility does not make one a doormat."

Charisma Magazine review of Low Road to New Heights

"In his challenging and inspiring book The Low Road to New Heights, Wellington Boone identifies the source that often leads Christians to feel depressed and defeated in their lives, offering spiritual heights therapy to recover from the common curse of 'self'--pride. Humility, prayer and leading by serving remove pride."

New Man Magazine review of Breaking Through (Broadman & Holman, 1996)

"To the uninitiated, the term 'worm training' may conjure up bizarre images of iron-pumping invertebrates. But to those who have heard the energetic messages of Christian teacher and pastor Wellington Boone at Promise Keepers conferences and other events, it means happy marriages, brotherly love and a renewed relationship with God.

"The concept of worm-training actually comes from a psalm of David's: 'But I am a worm and no man. . . .' And to Boone's biblical acumen it symbolizes man's need to be broken before God (Ps. 22:6).

" 'A worm never protests,' writes Boone. 'A worm doesn't fight back. A worm doesn't find ways to escape the crushing blow from above.' Essentially, a worm is at your mercy, as we are at God's Accept it, as a worm does.' "

"It's wild stuff, but the way Boone tells it in his first book, entitled Breaking Through, makes perfect sense. Worm-training, he says, produces humility and a spirit of servitude. It's the first step toward the kind of Christian living that unites God's kingdom on earth."

I purchased this book years ago when Mr. Boone was at my church. I made the mistake and shared it with somebody and never got it back. My son is starting to date - very seriously - so I ordered this book for him. I want him to be married only once -- unless he becomes a widower. I highly recommend this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Well worth the read!, August 17, 2009
I have really enjoyed this book. My fiance and I have learned a great deal about how to interact together as a couple and the pitfalls the seem to trap so many of our friends. It presents the fabulous concept of "outserving your mate" in that if the two are always trying to out give to other then happiness abounds. I highly recommend this book for new and established couples.
