The Return of Real R&B with a Touch of Soul.,
By "iforever1" (Philadelphia, PA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Your Woman (Audio CD)
This CD is hot. I don't think it's fair to compare Sunshine to any other artist because her own personality blasts through so hard on each track. Also I've seen her in person and the personality you hear on the tracks represent her true self. With that said the whole CD is full of soulful R&B energy. Sunshine's vocals are down to earth all the way through and remind you of what good R&B is and used to be. No derogatory comments about sex, men, or women just soulful intelligent lyrics and creative music. The production is done very well also. Mike City did most of the tracks and his production is a clear view to the future direction of R&B. The whole CD has hard hitting drum lines that will surely make you want to dance with no question. The acoustic sounding bass, horns, and mellow piano chords have a very soulful sound sort of like Prince meets Roy Ayers with a little Donald Bird mixed in. The sound isn't dragged down with to many samples which makes each track unique in its own way. Mike City also did Carl Thomas's, "I wish I never meet her". On the whole if you like good music without the kiddy nonsense you'll love this CD.

Disappointing......,

Well, it seems as her two radio releases are pretty much the best songs on her album. You can certainly tell this is her first album from her voice. She can sing, but she can't SANG. I think she would benefit greatly from a voice coach, someone who could refine her voice just a little......

Im sorry to say that I seem to be in the minority... I don't disagree that "HEARD IT ALL BEFORE" is a strong debut single but I was a little disappointed with the album as a whole. I would seriously look at India Arie and Jill Scott before this, alot more 'soulful'.
