Reconsidering James' Blunt-ness,
By
This review is from: You're Beautiful Pt.2 (Audio CD)
In direct response to those who say that this song is in some way diminished by Blunt's use of profanity, I would direct the detractors to the lyrics sheet. While it is true that Blunt uses the dreaded "f-bomb" in his song, to dismiss it because it is naughty misses the point entirely.
The real issue? A misconception that Blunt has penned a love song about how he'll just never get that pretty girl on the street. To like that particular song is shallow--and I argue that it is a reflection of the listener's character. An analagous example: The Police-"Every Breath You Take," a song about a stalker most dullards think is a charming, wedding-appropriate ballad. For Sting's sake! Sting makes this correction seemingly every time he is in an interview. Referring back to the lyrics sheet, then, is a way to rectify the situation. I will not divulge the secret of the song here, lest someone wants to revel in their ignorant fantasy. However, this particular single version adds even more credence to my thesis that this song is more complex than some would care to think in that it provides more visual clues in its stripped-down design. The video, as well as the single itself, are well-worth the price. And the bonus tracks aren't that bad, either...

Sorry to destroy the fantasy...,

It is too bad that the reveiws here are focused on anything other than the music. My personal opinion is that this album is a beautiful and personal creation by James. It is brilliant and stands head and shoulders above many other pieces on it's own.
It is sad to see how many people listen to an artist song, or view their painting, etc., and are offended, or at the very least disappointed in some piece of the finished product. Guess what? It was not created specifically for you! Surprise! James wrote this song about a very personal experience and did not spend his energy worrying if you personally would find it fulfilling, enjoyable, or even interesting. Let the artist create and get out of the way with your self absorbed criticism. Tell you what, write your own song and express yourself how you see fit. Notice I did not say to express yourself how you think others will want you to. Let the music speak to you, and everyone else, how it will.

Pointless swearing, but good song,
A Kid's Review

I do agree that the unnecesary swearing in the song, is poor, but it is a very good song, and James blunt did write this which is good in itself! i do listen to this song frequently, and enjoy it, it doesnt seem to get boring, and i do think, that this is a good contendor for song of 2005.

Song,

This is a lovely song, minus the 'F' word in it. It really wrecks the whole mood of the song. I mean would you like to have someone sing a swear word at you?
