5.0 out of 5 stars If you are a beginner
This is a great book to start out with and read. Seth Godin wrote this book seriously but humouring. This book tells you how the stock market works, tell's you about churning and price manipulation, how much of the pie Uncle Sam wants. This book will walk you through the balance sheet and how to understand them, How to read the stock tables, what the index is about, and...

3.0 out of 5 stars So - So
the book was fairly uninteresting and almost too broad. I felt like after every tiny section, he assumed you understood and just moved on. I was really clueless and was wanting just any information I could get my hands on. I did learn a little but it wasn't necessarily that helpful. The other reason I chose this book was because the author's name came up when I was...

5.0 out of 5 stars If you are a beginner, December 9, 1999
This review is from: If You're Clueless About the Stock Market and Want to Know More (Paperback)
This is a great book to start out with and read. Seth Godin wrote this book seriously but humouring. This book tells you how the stock market works, tell's you about churning and price manipulation, how much of the pie Uncle Sam wants. This book will walk you through the balance sheet and how to understand them, How to read the stock tables, what the index is about, and so on. This is just a great book and it has helped me open my mind to understanding the stock market. The only down side I could fine is if you don't like a little bit of humour then this book may not be for you. The great side on the humour is if you got sweaty palms like I did the Godin's humour relieve the stress. I learn a lot from this book and you will to.

5.0 out of 5 stars Start here if your even thinking of investing!, November 16, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: If You're Clueless About the Stock Market and Want to Know More (Paperback)
This book is great for beginners! It is presented in a clear entertaining manner. I went from being clueless to feeling informed, and comfortable enough to jump into the investment world. Investment terminology is no longer intimidating, and the resources the book suggests are exactly what a beginner is looking for.

5.0 out of 5 stars Investments: Are they for me? Where do I start?, May 24, 2000

This review is from: If You're Clueless About the Stock Market and Want to Know More (Paperback)
Seth Godin discusses the stock market and other investment instruments in a serious but interesting and fun manner. The book is written for an audience that has little or no understanding of the investment world. Even though the audience has very little experience, the book accomplishes the task of warning you about the high risk of investing while giving you the knowledge and steps to get started. He discusses how to manage the risk but makes the point clear, there is no such thing as a risk free investment in the stock market. The book is resource rich (identifies needed tools and where to get them) and right on time for the year 2000 market place. It addresses the bull and the bear market. It is a easy read and a great introduction to investing. When you complete the book, you will have a basic understanding of the stock market and how to get started. I highly recommend this book to all beginners and people with light experience or knowledge of the investment world.

This is the first book I read before buying shares. My advice is don't buy any shares until you have read this book. I did and made 30% in three months.

I do not enjoy reading, but this book made it very simple to understand the basics of the stock market. It also went into detail about how to read financial statements. It is easy to understand and gets right to the point.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy and Enjoyable to read! Packed with useful info!, November 5, 1998
This review is from: If You're Clueless About the Stock Market and Want to Know More (Paperback)
Sitting down to read informative books after a hard day of work can seem somehow tedious. But "Clueless about the Stock market" is easy to read and gets right down to the simplest level for understanding. Examples of Joe's Pizza breeds a familiarity to life that make the complications of stocks, bonds, preferred, common, splits etc. sound no more like jibberish but rather understandable language. I recommend it for everyone. Now you can talk the talk with the big guys!

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: If You're Clueless About the Stock Market and Want to Know More (Paperback)
I found this book to be a very good quick introduction to the Stock Market. It does a great job of explaining, through simple language and examples, all of the basic terminology, workings and advice to beginners needed to get started in the stock market. The format of the book is geared toward catching and keeping the readers interest, with lots of side-bars and inserts containing interesting facts pertaining to, and historical perspectives on the stock market. Hey.. I finally understand the difference between preferred-stock, common-stock and livestock !!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good for getting started and learning the basics...., February 26, 2005
This is a really good book. I was skeptical after reading the first chapter where it went over the history and what stocks represent. But after that it really got good. I know now how to buy stock on value. What's really important is "reading the numbers". This book will teach you how to read the annual and quarterly financial reports and how to make sense of them.

Provides straight, understandable explanations of everything about the stock market, written in a friendly, sometimes humorous style. From buying and selling to terminology and tactics. The glossary of terms is especially helpful. I use this book for reference all the time, and highly recommend it to anyone with an interest in stocks.

If you want to understand how the stock market works get this book. Its written with the assumption that you know little or nothing about finance or how the market works. It include info on income statements and balance sheets. Also, it is written in an entertaining manner so you won't be bored.
