There are over 2 million families choosing alternative forms of education in the United States. "Youre gonna miss the prom?" provides a unique perspective on education. Although the book focuses on how to accelerate a student by entering college early, this book also provides answers to many of the questions that educators and parents may ask when trying to decide to grade skip or accelerate by subject. What can parents do to make it easier for their child to succeed in education?
Lauren Betancourt and her mother, Donna, offer advice on many types of schooling and provide a first hand account of the entire acceleration process, detailing their experiences and providing a practical and complete, step-by-step guide for the parents of gifted children.

Great Book for Gifted Kids and Their Parents,
By A Customer
This review is from: You're Gonna Miss the Prom?: A True Life Account and Guide Book for Gifted Kids (Paperback)
Excellent! A very interesting story. The first two chapters of the book are about Lauren Betancourt who entered college at age thirteen. Chapter 2 gives details of her college years including what she took academically each semester and how she fit in socially. The other chapters really explain what you're up against if you decide to put a child ahead. Chapter 7 gives you tips on how to answer critical people who don't agree with your choice of schooling or people who think you're a pushy parent. There is a list of colleges that accept young children and a very helpful bibliography with a long list of research papers on gifted children. The most interesting part of the book was reading the questions and answers chapter where Lauren and her mother respond to the questions they've been asked over the years. This book covers everything from the younger years right up to college, SAT and financial aid. I liked the book and found it down to earth and easy to read.

This book was a wonderful story of success of a gifted child. This mother and daughter searched out and acted upon what was best for this gifted child and had the rewards of reaching their goal. The information included in the book will certainly help others who wish to reach similar goals in the future. I would highly recommend anyone to read this book.
