YOU'RE MY HERO (Eres Mi Heroe) is set in Spain in the mid-1970s just before and following General Franco's death in November 1975. The death of the Spanish dictator sets the stage for an array of social and political upheavals among the citizens of Spain as they explore new directions for their country. But disagreements between Fascists, Communists and those seeking a free democracy only result in confusion, chaos and turmoil. It is against this background that 13-year-old Ramon (spanish child prodigy Manuel Lozano, "Butterfly") must try to learn the lessons of being an alolescent. The fact that his father's job forces him to move to a new town and a new school every year doesn't make things any easier. Since Ramon is always the new kid at every school, he is a natural target for the school bullies. In order to survive, Ramon decides to keep a low profile, or as he puts it, to become "invisible." But at his latest school this strategy begins to fall apart as the bullies relentlessly pursue him. So he starts to fight back. After his next encounter with the gang--in which he flattens one of the bullies--he starts to gain some respect. Ironically, a young girl who has caught his eye is none other than the sister of the bully who Ramon had his encounter with earlier. But she seems to take to him anyway. Unfortunately, Ramon has received some bad advice on how to treat girls, so their first "intimate" encounter ends badly to say the least. (I don't want to spoil the movie with too many of the small details.)

Now that Ramon's newfound respect has resulted in his acceptance by the bullies, he has entered a new chapter of his life. They introduce him to alcohol, Playboy magazines, and convince him to pull a prank on a teacher they don't like.

Format: DVD
Talented child actor and prodigy Manuel Lozano stars in this humorous coming-of-age drama set in the 1970s, as Franco's dictatorship is coming to an end. The historical turbulence of these times are mirrored in the life of the doe-eyed 13-year-old, whose father's occupation has landed him in yet another new school, this time in Seville. A lifetime of being bullied has taught Ramon to make himself as invisible as possible, but he soon comes to realize that this solution will not help him at his new school, where the bullies are relentless. Finally fighting back, Ramon earns their respect, and begins to experiment with his newfound social standing, exploring his attraction to the beautiful Paloma, and committing an act of vandalism that will ultimately bring him face to face with a life-altering moral dilemma.

Manual Lozano, Spanish actor, carries this film. His transition from young teen to adulthood eventually is particularly captured when he's 13. I think it would be an excellent family film for those with middle school/early high school age children. I've enjoyed few ending to a film more then this one!
