Many reviewers here seem to be expecting Cult to be a supernatural or sci-fi show but are disappointed that it's not. Cult isn't this, instead it is a thriller and drama that revolves around a conspiracy and hidden meanings/metaphors in a show called Cult (show within the show).

The show's meta premise to me is pretty interesting. It may not appeal to everyone, but I think people who find these sort of themes interesting will enjoy Cult. It's a shame that it didn't gain wide-spread enough appeal to stay on the air.

Quirkier and more inventive than THE FOLLOWING, which wasted the rich material offered by Poe's works. Here, the cult's activities and leaders are closely tied to a television program by the same name. The series offers humor, intrigue, tech-related twists, a disturbing portrayal of fandom, and the fine line between reality and fantasy, particularly when media, drugs, and brain-washing cults are involved.

Update: Show was cancelled. I really hope they close some threads and don't leave us completely hanging. Still like the show, I like things like The Prisoner and The Pretender, so the ambiguity of what is going on doesn't upset me. Bob Knepper's role is delightfully deep, on one hand he's just an actor trying to do his best and promote his career, on the other he's totally believable as the sociopathic cult leader on the show. He's been fantastic at both aspects. We will see where it goes. It's creepy, good for conspiracy buffs.

From the preview commercials, I thought this series was going to be a psychological thriller with a "sprinkle" of supernatural. After viewing the first five episodes, I'm not impressed. Freakish fans looking for clues in a show; a man trying to find his brother, a woman wanting to know the reason why her father disappeared and a show about a cult that's iffish at best.

I wouldn't recommend this series. I'm quite sure (hopefully!) it'll get better (hopefully!). Yes, I meant to type hopefully! twice. LOL I would like to know others view on it.

I enjoyed cult, which is about a news reporter who's brother goes missing. the brother and other people watch a show called "cult" and see messages. The reporter has help from a women working on the show. you follow the two around as they piece together clues from the tv show and the brothers notes on the tv show. It's to bad this show was canceled with only 7 episodes done.

it was a refreshing approach to serialized programming. very well cast and performed. did not feel like there were any extraneous and vestigial episodes. perfect series ending (have t-shirt with that classic "well, hey, these things just snap right off")

It's not my favorite, but it's a good enough show to watch when nothing else is on. Some may have trouble following the dual storylines (one is the show and one is the "show"). I don't. But I know someone else who can't keep track.

Excellent and thought provoking series. Well written and clever, not just a rehash of tried ideas. Hope it last for a long while.
