You're Not Old Until You're Nintey: Best to Be Prepared...,
By
This review is from: You're Not Old Until You're Ninety: Best to Be Prepared, However (Paperback)
This book was like sitting in the garden and having tea with a fascinating grandmother who has wonderful experience to share. Rebecca tells a story, not about denying or ignoring old age, but of a gentle persistant inner journey that leaves me excited about growing older and discovering all the possibilities that lie within. It's a book about living - at any age. She also provides an excellent suggested reading list, which I have availed myself of. I've sent copies of the book to my loved ones, hoping they too would not only enjoy the story, but also realize the gift of wise experiences.

I was pleasantly surprised to get so much benefit from this book even though I am definitely not old! (49!) The book helped me to realize that old age is definitely "mental" and the book gives good, reasonable advice for being happy and healthy at any age. This would be a great book for anyone who is learning to deal with aging parents or friends.

Being 92 years young, Rebecca Latimer writes from experience and with authority in You're Not Old Until You're Ninety: Best To Be Prepared, However. Her eloquent stories and suggested activities are accessible presented in a thoroughly "reader friendly" text and will prove as inspiring and motivating as they are easy and enjoyable. Here revealed are Rebecca's secrets for vigorously aging while maintaining a balance in all things, developing good friendships; staying interested in learning new things; picking up on your intuition, and "listening" to your body. If you are entering the autumn of your life, or have a loved one who is, then You're Not Old Until You're Ninety offers what is a truly life enhancing, energizing, and enjoyment oriented "how to" book that will prove welcome and rewarding reading.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book because of the light hearted mood of the author while sharing a good deal of wisdom with me, the reader. The author related experience with a broad range of spiritual traditions without expressing a bias, and with commentary indicating she does get it. I have passed it on to others at my retirement community and continue to recommend it. A friend gave it such high marks that I decided to buy a copy and I am glad that I did.

Rebecca Lattimer shared a lot of wisdom that she gained throughout her long and interesting life. One story I recall is how she used visualization to completely get rid of some skin cancer. I loved this book and found it inspiring.

Annual Re-read,

This review is from: You're Not Old Until You're Ninety: Best to Be Prepared, However (Paperback)
I love this book and I love the recording Rebecca Latimer made of it. I make it a point to listen to it and re-read the book once a year. What I love and find most inspiring is her quest to grow and learn throughout her life.
Her story of using The Well Body Book to find her Inner Doctor inspired me to seek out my own Inner Healer, a wellness tool which, I believe, allows you to access your subconscious knowledge about your health. She got a young Mexican doctor named Jaime...I got a no-nonsense middle-aged woman healer named Annie...who has been advising me ever since. That's just one of the ways reading her book has been useful in my own life. It's a good book to have around if only to remind us that we can live - really live - until we die. So if you're interested in one woman's story about how she grew into her elder years and maintained a joyous expectation and curiosity about life, get this book and try to find the tape set (if you still have a cassette player.) They turn up once in awhile and there are a few used on Amazon.

disappointed,

This review is from: You're Not Old Until You're Ninety: Best to Be Prepared, However (Paperback)
I was disappointed in this book. The title is promising, however, the content is sophomoric - a rather juvenile style of writing. This is basically a woman's journal entries, chronicling her personal growth through her reading experiences. Her reading material is dated; there are many newer and finer sources for personal growth opportunties. Her frequent comments of, "you might not be interested in this but, . . . " are tedious. Her frequent pauses to listen to a tape and then writing, "I'm back . . . " are irritating. I don't know how the editor let her get away with her repetitious non-information. Wait, yes, I do. The reason this book was published is the gimmick of a ninety-year-old woman writing her memoirs. Given all that, if you need a reading list for personal growth and enjoy the ramblings of a woman who is constantly working on personal growth, then this book may be for you.
