5.0 out of 5 stars One of a kind romance novel!
"You're the One" by Judi McCoy is different than any other romance novel I've ever read. This romance involves a man who's very much alive and a woman who very much isn't...and hasn't been for quite some time. I know what you're thinking...that there's no way that a living, breathing man and a ghost can fall in love and find happiness. I too was a little...

3.0 out of 5 stars nice cover!
I just have say that I like this cover and the other of this author as well. It's not like the "usual" ones and this is nice and a bit fun.
And about the book, it's not too deep but easy to read and follow.
A fun read if you want to relax and have a good time!

5.0 out of 5 stars One of a kind romance novel!, December 29, 2001

"You're the One" by Judi McCoy is different than any other romance novel I've ever read. This romance involves a man who's very much alive and a woman who very much isn't...and hasn't been for quite some time. I know what you're thinking...that there's no way that a living, breathing man and a ghost can fall in love and find happiness. I too was a little skeptical when I picked up the book, but a few chapters in Judi McCoy had convinced me that it was in fact very possible.

Randall MacPherson, the president of MacPherson Development, has just inherited the family manor. It's been boarded up for longer than anyone can count and they say that it's haunted, or at least Rand's crazy uncle Colin said so. Rand, always having a certain respect and love for the old house, decides to move in and begin the tedious job of restoring the old Victorian back to it's original glory. What he doesn't know is that the old ghost tale is in fact true and he's inherited the spirit as well. And she's not too happy to have him!

Cassandra Kinross' story is such a sad one. Forced to marry American Colin MacPherson by her strict Scottish father, Cassandra moves into the new mansion to await her wedding day. Unfortunantely for Cassandra, that day never arrives, as she is buried alive in a make-shift coffin from a closet where she meets her untimely death. Awakening to find herself in the spirit world, Cassandra casts a curse on Colin and all of his male kin that none may find true happiness or love. The curse itself cannot be broken until Cassandra finds her one true love.

The interaction between Rand and Cassandra is at times funny, heartbreaking, and passionate. It's amazing to see Cassandra's transformation from a spirit into a human being as she begins to fall in love with Rand. It's also interesting to see the struggle inside Cassandra as she must overlook her hate for the MacPherson's and accept a man she's cursed into her heart.

Aside from Rand and Cassandra, there is another romance forming between Rand's newly single sister Nancy and his co-worker and longtime friend Bill. These two have always had an attraction to the other, and now that Nancy has divorced her cheating husband Warren (a plastic surgeon), Bill decides to make his move. Their romance is put to the test though by Nancy's two young children, who very much miss their father and are not too eager for another one.

If you're looking for a different sort of contemporary romance novel, "You're the One" by Judi McCoy is right up your alley.

5.0 out of 5 stars Charming second book, August 10, 2003

Judi McCoy is a great new voice in paranormal romance. In this story, Cassandra Kinross's spiteful fiance bricks her behind a closet when she refuses to marry him. Cassandra, who practiced witchcraft in her native Scotland, curses her fiance and all his descendants. 100 years later, Rand McPherson inherits the house from his great great uncle, who went mad after he was abandoned by his bride on their wedding day.

Cassandra is furious that another McPherson male is taking over her house and her life. Rand is thrilled he has his own personal ghost. Through love and magic, Cassandra finds her way to become human. Rand admits that he loves her, but cannot believe her.

The ending is heartwrenching and frightening at the same time. The story made me laugh and cry, and definitely believe that true love will always find a way.

4.0 out of 5 stars Lighthearted Fun, January 22, 2002

Just imagine the havoc a ghost can bring to a guy who is trying to remodel the house she has been living in for the past 100 years and you have an idea of the fun that's in store for you if you read this book. Cassandra is a VERY inventive ghost.

But aside from Cassandra, 2 of my favorite characters are Rand's mother and Madame Ragnar who ride around in a Humm-vee and try to help Cassandra without Rand knowing.

"You're the One" is funny and (okay, here it comes!) "spirited" with a surprise or two at the end.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really Cute!, May 2, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: You're The One (Zebra Contemporary Romance) (Paperback)
When I read the blurb on this one I just wasn't sure it would work for me. But, since I liked Judi McCoy's other books, I gave it a try. I have to confess I enjoyed it to the hilt. Yes, it's light; yes, it requires a little suspension of disbelief, but the funny, sexy, and quite delightful tale is worth the read. I particularly liked Rand's mom and the medium and their prosaically mystical attempts to help the two lovers. What a hoot. Enjoy!

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice, if you don't take your romance `seriously', August 25, 2002
This review is from: You're The One (Zebra Contemporary Romance) (Paperback)
Judi McCoy's You're the One is a story of a young witch who was murdered by an enraged fiancee on their wedding day 100 years ago and entombed in a grand house he had built.

A century later, her murderer's decendant, Rand McPherson, reopened the house and planned to renovate and refurbish it. He was delighted to see Cassandra Kinross existed, true to the family legend and wants to get to know her.

Cassandra is not too thrilled with the renovation and tries to sabotage the operations. But because she was complacent the last 100 years and did not bother to practise her magic, it wasn't very powerful to say the least.

Judi's story takes a twist because Cassandra does not remain a ghost and somehow becomes more and more solid, until she's almost human. And that's complicated by Rand falling in love with her though he does not want to take advantage of her dependence on him as she has already been wronged by his family.

You're The One is a light tale on love between a supernatural and a human. If you're one of those who wants romance to be serious and somewhat based on reality, then you might want to give this a miss. Otherwise, it's an enjoyable book to read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Read it twice!, December 11, 2011
This review is from: You're The One (Zebra Contemporary Romance) (Paperback)
Sure we as paranormal romance readers see a lot of Vampires, Werewolves and Witches but a Ghost love story? Yup, this was very well done, super unique and really sweet. I love this book all the way through. It just goes to show that everyone can have a second chance at love if you give it a shot.

5.0 out of 5 stars Totally Delightful and Fun Read, May 20, 2005

Rand MacPherson has finally obtained his dream. After 100 years the trust legacy left by his great-great-uncle Colin had run it's course and Rand had inherited the very decrepit Victorian manor. To some a decrepit, aging white elephant but to Rand a dream come true. It would be here that Rand would call home.

Cassandra Kinross had been residing in the house forever, well ever since Rand's great-great-uncle Colin had walled her into the third floor closet so many years ago. As a result, she'd cursed him and all male MacPherson's to never find true love UNTIL she did. Now Rand MacPherson thought to move in. Well, he was big, handsome, and he didn't seem to be intimidated at all by her - actually, he seemed amused. Maybe, he just might be the one - her own true love.

*** This was a totally delightful fantasy tale that had a little bit of everything tossed into the mix - fantasy, humor, sensuality, and a bit of a heart wrenching tearjerker ending. Cassandra was such a little minx, not only a ghost but a witch as well and she was so well matched with Rand who seemed totally amused by her antics and thrilled to have his very own personal `house-ghost-guest'. Couple this along with a well-defined set of secondary characters, a couple of cute kids and you're in for a very entertaining read.
Rand's mother, a somewhat wacky socialite and her `ghost-busting' friend who decided to help Cassandra win Rand's love were a hoot. In any case, this was a very entertaining and enjoyable read, and an author I intend to put on my watch list.

5.0 out of 5 stars Adorable Fantasy, August 9, 2003

This review is from: You're The One (Zebra Contemporary Romance) (Paperback)
Judi McCoy's second book is even better than her first. Cassandra Kinross is murdered by her miserable fiance and walled up in a closet in the house he built for her. 100 years later, Rand McPherson, the fiance's great great nephew inherits the house and decides to renovate it for himself. Rand is the first person Cassandra has met since her fiance went mad and closed the house. She's angry that an upstart and a relative of the man who murdered her is going to take over her home. Rand is shocked then intrigued when he finds that his future home is haunted. Cassandra has special powers and manages to find her mortality through her love for Rand. Rand is liberated by Cassandra's all encompassing love. The story also has a wonderful secondary romance between Rand's sister and his best friend, two cute kids, a wacky mother and a slightly off the wall mystic. The ending of this book is heartwrenching, but there are many poignant and humorous moments in between. All in all a wonderful read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sweet, charming and funny, December 4, 2001

This review is from: You're The One (Zebra Contemporary Romance) (Paperback)
This book had it all, and from a new writer, no less. I read Ms. McCoy's first book and liked it so much I decided to get the second one. You're the One had me laughing throughout and crying at the end. The characters are so real, even though one is a ghost, and their reactions to circumstances are on the money. I can't wait for September 2002 and her next release.

4.0 out of 5 stars Paranormal romance? Yes, please!, October 25, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: You're The One (Zebra Contemporary Romance) (Paperback)
Thanks to the [...] group "What's the Name of That Book?" I was able to find "You're the One" after years of trying to remember the title. I immediately ordered it used from an Amazon seller and was excited when it appeared in the mailbox. It was just as much fun to read as I remembered!

Randall MacPherson has just inherited the family mansion that has been closed up and forgotten for over 100 years. He is excited to move in and begin renovations; but gets more than he bargained for when he discovers the house is haunted by Cassandra, a beautiful ghost with a scandalous secret.

I confess that I have a complete weak spot for paranormal romances; I love them. This story is sexy, funny and sweet. I am so glad to have found it after all these years!
