4.0 out of 5 stars One of Jackie's best.
A few years ago, I ran across a vinyl copy of "You're the Only Dancer". I was unfamiliar with the title; surprised that a Jackie DeShannon release had escaped me, so I picked it up for next to nothing. I would not part with that vinyl for anything. I feel it's one of her best. I've looked for a CD version for several years unsuccessfully. The songs are...

3.0 out of 5 stars Sheeesh Squared!
Just for the record, this was written on January 24, 2012.
... NOT February 28, 2010 as indicated by the website gods.

(( What's that all about? ))

To the point ...

Let's just re-release this double album CD
and be done with the incredible over-pricing.

The songs are soulful, plaintive and sensuous. The melodies are catchy. I'll go for 5 years without pulling the record out and playing it, yet remember every note and every word. Then when I put the platter on the turntable and hear the first few notes, I am flooded with emotion. This album obviously did not achieve the popular success of her 1965 and 1969 triumphs (What the World Needs Now and Put a Little Love In Your Heart), but it has a place of honor in my record collection.

4.0 out of 5 stars 70's California country-pop, September 1, 1999

These are the last two studio albums from one of the great blue-eyed soul-singers. The above reviewer feels her voice is unexpressive. Nothing could be further from the truth. Jackie possesses one of the truly great instruments in popular music. That said, these songs are mostly laid-back, and don't possess the passion and energy of her finest performances. There are some great moments though, and anything by Jackie DeShannon is worth having.

4.0 out of 5 stars Worth it for Jackie's version of "Dorothy", October 28, 2010

This review is from: You're the Only Dancer / Quick Touches (Audio CD)
Back in the '70s, when album oriented pop and rock were taking over the FM airwaves, I heard a song that I couldn't get out of my head. It was Jackie DeShannon's soulful, wistful rendition of songwriter Hugh Prestwood's "Dorothy".

Although this tune has also been covered by Judy Collins and Amanda McBroom, I think the more spare and simple arrangement on the "You're The Only Dancer" album, and Jackie's wistful styling suit the song better than the more lush arrangement and style on the Judy Collins album, "Hard Times For Lovers".

Since "You're The Only Dancer" has been out of print for years and the independent label that released it in North America is also long gone, I was delighted to find this UK double album CD release.

If you are a Jackie DeShannon fan and find one of these CDs, snap it up. You won't be sorry.

Flower in the Crannied Wall
by Alfred Lord Tennyson

Flower in the crannied wall
I pluck you out of the cranny
I hold you here
root and all in my hand
little flower
but if I could understand
what you are
root and all
and all in all
I should know what God and man is ...

There ...

Is that 20 words yet? (( silly website! ))

Double Sheeesh!
