Good single, and even better b-side,

I admit, the first time I heard Maria Mena's "You're The Only One" I didn't know quite what to make of it. The song is so unconventional in how she literally speaks the words (although she does sing during the chorus). And yet there was something special about this song which caused me to give it a few more listens. After all, many things cannot be judged right away and require time to fully understand. Well now this song has become stuck in my head and I love it. I still find it unique, but in a great way. It's refreshing to see an artist like Maria who has her own style and doesn't just put out manufactured, stale music for the masses. She is a true talent, in her own quirky way. And I find her voice to have a certain smoothness to it that gives "You're The Only One" a distinct characteristic.
But the real gem of this single is the non-album track "Patience." WOW, what a great song. Beautiful, just beautiful. Maria's singing is more "conventional" on this song, and everything about it works perfectly. I can't believe this song didn't make it on her album.

What a style!,

I have to admit that when I first heard Maria Mena's song "You're the Only One" I was skeptical about her style, and her lyrics. But I found myself humming the tune, and soon buying the song off of iTunes. It's an interesting song, and is almost telling you a story. If you listen to the words, you realize how well Maria relates to young love. It may be more for the teenage ears, but even adults need to remember what love felt like in their youth. The chorus is one that will stay in your head, and soon you will find yourself singing the words, "You're the only one who drags me kicking and screaming through fast dreams."

"You're the Only One" marks Maria Mena's "big" [American] debut, hitting the Billboard Charts upon its release. And I wholeheartedly believe the song, and the singer, deserve to be there. Now, some people may say she doesn't sing, only talks, but --- that is in this one song. And that is what makes the song. The little, quirky talking has a flirtatious tone; she's telling a story, it's cute, and quite enjoyable. Her voice is different --- fragile and somewhat airy, yet she means every word she sings. I'm expecting great things from her CD, and I can't wait to see where she goes. Definitely check this single out.
