4.0 out of 5 stars This is good!
Yes it's the actress now being a singer. Well not really actually. Juliette Lewis has been singing for a while now and does it well. In natural born killers she did a nice little acapella of a track titled "born bad" and on the film strange days she did a great rendition of pj harvey's hardly wait. I would even say it's better than the original!

3.0 out of 5 stars This rocks!
Juliette's got the goods -- her voice is terrific, ranging from truly ferocious to gentle. Some of the songs are not particularly memorable, but the music's got punk spirit and it's great to hear Juliette howl with conviction, "This song goes out ... to the entire WOOOORRRRRLLDD!" It's a little L7, a little Joan Jett, even a tiny bit Siouxsie in some places. "Money in My...

So I've been dying to hear her own material and I gotta admit that I was a bit disappointed with the EP as I found it too eightish rock sounding. The EP fell into my hands and easily slipped away.
But the album that I am now reviewing is good. Actually pretty damn good! I'm glad i gave her the chance again as I know she's good musically. This is the best of modern rock with a classic touch.

Rock on Juliette!

To be honest, I prefer "Like a Bolt of Lightning" to this one, but this is an excellent album! I really took a liking to a few of the tracks, and play those all the time, because I gotta hear 'em again! I look forward to the next album, I'll be the first in line.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loving this CD..., June 10, 2005

When I hear about any actors/actresses trying to be singers I immediately start to cringe, but I didn't do that when I heard Juliette Lewis had her own band. She's like a regular guest on the Conan O'Brien show and is always funny and interesting and even sang on the show a couple of times. So needless to say I was excited. I have listened to it 3 times today. My favorite song is "I Never Got To Tell You What I Wanted To". What also pleased me not only does this CD rock out it has it has a couple soft moments too, I didn't have to skip one song which we do so frequently nowadays. You're Speaking My Language is an awesome listen, can't wait to see them live.

5.0 out of 5 stars speaking my language..., May 23, 2005

this is good stuff... it does recall some other bands/artists, but it's a fun departure from many of the bands that are "huge now". from the exciting/upbeat songs "language", "money" and "love to kill", to the sweet "7th sign". this cd has something for everyone. it has ballads and "uppers" .

sure, shes gunna be compared to minnie, reaves and all the other actors-turned singers, but unlike them... i think she has the "it" to be a successful popstar.

If you've been putting off buying this cd...STOP! I urge you to move that little arrow to the top of your computer screen and buy it NOW!

I caught a special on Vh1 showcasing Juliette and the Licks and their hopeful road to stardom. Not only was I pumped because I am a huge Juliette Lewis fan but because I know this girl can sing. When I heard her sing PJ Harvey's "Rid of Me" in Strange Days, I was amazed. I was a little skeptical because how many actors make it big in the music business? Not many, unless your a manufactured pop star ie. Lohan, Duff. I thought that every song would be a clone of itself; expecting furious punk rock with not much substance. This album kicks you in teeth and even grabs you by the heart at times. Every song is unique and memorable. Some are obviously better than others (tracks 2-5 and 7 being the best here) but it's a solid listen straight to the end. The production values are top notch and the band is stellar with awesome guitar licks (pardon the pun) and thundering percussion. Juliette and the Licks have brought back rock n' roll into our lives. God bless 'em!

I saw her live on saturday night and she rocks!!! The band are pretty awesome too. The cd is definitely worth buying and is a welcome break from the norm. You may need a few listens but it gets there. I am sure Juliette Lewis will just get better as she matures as a singer.

The energy of this band is amazing! Just listening to them makes you want to get up and jump about. I was really surprised and pleased at how good Juliette Lewis really is. I know she's a good actress, but that doesn't always translate into a good singer/performer. Well, in this case it translates perfectly and she sure is speaking my language!

In some ways the band reminds me of XTC in the early 80's. They have that punky edge but with a very listenable and approachable sound.

Anyway, get the CD! And then write your own review :)

5.0 out of 5 stars HIGHLY ADDICTIVE listening experience!!, May 28, 2005

I REALLY dig this cd!! I went to their live show in Chicago and was BLOWN AWAY by Juliette's amazing, contagious energy...She IS a rock star!...It is the most fun I have ever had at a concert in my life, and I've been to quite a few. I would highly recommend purchasing the band's phenomenal EP "...Like a Bolt of Lightning" for anyone who doesn't already have it...You will be rocked. I personally prefer the EP versions of "American Boy" and "Got Love to Kill" to the 'new' mixes they've included on 'YSML', but the new version's are great in their own way. "You're Speaking my Language is quickly becoming highly addictive... my favorite tracks are 'You're Speaking my Language', 'American Boy Vol. 2', 'Pray for the Band LaToya', 'Seventh Sign of Love' & 'Long Road Out of Here'.

This is such an amazing album. Its warm and cold, open and exposed. The instrumentation is on point. This album is perfect for the women and girls to evolve to.
