Bente Elsworth was born in Randers, Demark. She has lived in England since 1968 and has a degree in Russian from the University of London. I purchased this book in anticipation of a two month stay in Denmark. I find that it is fairly complete in the amount of vocabulary covered, and very helpful. After faithfully going through the entire book, you should be able to purchase a grammar and a dictionary and continue your studies fairly easily by studying the grammar and reading a Danish newspaper.

However, a warning: DANISH IS NOT A VERY PHONETIC LANGUAGE! It would be A WASTE OF YOUR TIME to purchase the package of the book that does NOT include the CD! You will not be understood, or understand people around you. (By the way, this is a situation unique to Danish: Norwegian and Swedish are totally phonetic languages). I highly recommend this book.
