An intriguing book of fantasies by a truly fascinating guy, March 24, 1998

This review is from: Do-It-Yourself Piston Polishing (Paperback)
If Scott O'Hara injected even just a little of himself into the characters he portrays in this volume, then I regret very much that I will never get the chance to meet him in person (Scott passed away in February 1998 from AIDS complications). Alternately laugh-out-loud funny and darkly intense, the stories here titillate both the libido and the mind -- which is, I suspect, what Scott intended from the get-go. Some of the stories are simply about sex (a major influence in Scott's life, and most other guy's too if we wanted to admit it!). Others involve sex but take on darker, more thoughtful shades, like personal and shared responsbility in the age of AIDS. But this book is, above all, an absorbing look into the mind of an intelligent free-spirit whose passing leaves us all a little poorer.
