My Space is better because of "Your Space:",
By Kate Moss (California, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Yourspace: A Friend's Guide to Myspace.com (Paperback)
I just started using My Space and I can't believe how much help this book has been. I have been using "Your Space:" as a step by step guide to getting started on My Space. I can't believe how much I have learned by reading this book.
Using "Your Space:" has made using My Space a lot more fun. I don't have to keep clicking on the help button every time I have a question; I just refer to "Your Space:" for reference. It's a great book for My Space newbies or anyone who would like to learn a little more about My Space. I would highly recommend this book. I'm even going to have my son read it before he starts using My Space. Steve Monas has done a great job.

YourSpace answers ALOT of Questions about MySpace,
By
This review is from: Yourspace: A Friend's Guide to Myspace.com (Paperback)
YourSpace is a user-friendly guide to the world of MySpace. I work with youth and MySpace is currently a big topic with them. Since I personally have (or had until YourSpace) little knowledge of what MySpace is all about, there was great concern about what time on MySpace could mean for an unsupervised young person online. YourSpace addressed many of my concerns by first explaining what the intent of MySpace is and how it came into existence.
A particularly helpful feature of YourSpace was the comparison of MySpace to other similar online sites which I had heard of and one of which I have used personally. This helped to give me a better understanding. A second helpful aspect of the YourSpace was the chapter by chapter explanation of many of the features of MySpace. For those wanting to start a page, the instructions are great. For those just want to understand how it works, it is also helpful. I appreciated that the book is not written from a marketing standpoint, but rather a "this is what MySpace is all about" position. YourSpace is like an "owner's manual" of sorts to the world of MySpace. Extremely helpful to those of us who are out of touch with the cyberspace world of "meeting and greeting." A must have for parents and youth workers!

MySpace Guide,
This review is from: Yourspace: A Friend's Guide to Myspace.com (Paperback)
MySpace has become a very popular social networking site and this guide helps you become a part of the growing community. Steve Monas's book explores how to use this site and is one that I highly recommend if you are thinking of using MySpace.
This invaluable book helps you set up your own MySpace site with step by step instructions on how to join the site, find your way around MySpace, add pictures and locate other ways to help promote your site. It is so easy to follow especially if you are like me, new to the web community and unsure of how to use html coding. This guide is extremely useful for everyone from the individual looking to meet new people through their "space" to the business owner who wants to use the site to help find more customers. This book explains every aspect of MySpace, although you can find the information on the site, the guide has it all there and easily available, complete with pictures. The guide even tells you how to use the chat rooms and forums to help you meet new people.

YourSpace - MySpace...,
By John Coutts (Shetland, Scotland.) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Yourspace: A Friend's Guide to Myspace.com (Paperback)
This book is a breath of fresh air in the world of MySpace. About 99% of the books I have seen that are based on the social networking phenonemon, MySpace, all tell you how to make big bucks selling things to the people who hang out there. [...] It's filled with screenshots that are a kind of what-you-can-do blueprint for MySpace that even an idiot could follow. Great stuff!
However, I would have preferred a bit more of a HOW-to-do-it blueprint. But maybe Steve felt it superflous as MySpace is really not a difficult place to navigate and understand. I'm pleased that Steve didn't focus all his attention on the business opportunities to be had at MySpace. Maybe I feel that way because I already know about them and didn't want to read just another biz opp MySpace book. However, if you've just become aware of MySpace's powerful business oppertunities, but you don't know how to use MySpace, or what it looks like or anything, then this might be a good book to start with. And if you just want to meet exciting new friends in the crazy world of MySpace, there can be no finer guide than this.

If you've ever wanted to get into the popular MySpace trend, but haven't known exactly how to go about it, "YourSpace: A Friend's Guide to MySpace.com" will walk you through the process. Social networking online has become a major tool for people and businesses. In "YourSpace: A Friend's Guide to MySpace.com", you'll be given the step-by-step details of setting up your space (your personal web site), how to dress it up with images, backgrounds and interactive elements to help make your page stand out and attract more visitors, and details for installing actual HTML code to your MySpace page (even if you don't know the first thing about HTML or web design). You can take the information in this book and use it to develop your MySpace page with elements that support your whole reason for being on MySpace in the first place. If you're looking to make new friends- be sure to read the chapter involving the chat rooms, forums and events. If you're looking to promote your business, find out how to input professionally made videos of your product or services and create a professional page that gets noticed by potential customers. Yourspace: A Friend's Guide to Myspace.com,

Yourspace...has a lot to offer those who would like to participage in the My Space phenomenon that is sweeping the country but aren't exactly sure how to go about doing it.
For example, I read this book to get a better understanding of how people enhance their My Space account to include graphics such as moving backgrounds. Although I had been admiring the enhancements, I did not know how to create them myself. Yourspace: A Friend's Guide to Myspace.com really breaks down the elements of what makes a great Myspace page and helps the reader figure out how to use those elements to create pages that are unique to them and show something about his or her personality. One of my favorite parts of the book was figuring out all the really neat tricks that give the Myspace pages I love their own look that grabs other readers' attention. I would (and have) recommend Yourspace: A Friend's Guide to Myspace.com. If you are curious as to how those great pages are built, read this book and create your own page that is like no other.

Comprehensive But Not Exhaustive,
By
This review is from: Yourspace: A Friend's Guide to Myspace.com (Paperback)
This could be one of the best books on MySpace. A big plus is, it has lots of photos, which I didn't expect. It covers just about every aspect of MySpace from browsing for other users to MySpace Layouts. The author also includes a MySpace timeline that starts with the soft launch in 2003 and details the rise of the most popular social networking site on the Web up through October 2006.
I only have two criticisms. The first is that the book mostly covers what you can do on MySpace without giving detailed instructions on how to do it. That's not really a negative. MySpace is so easy, detailed instructions aren't really necessary. Besides, most MySpace users will be able to get all the information they need on MySpace without a book telling them and that's the major drawback to this book. It tells you everything you can get for free on the MySpace web site; however, the book gives it to you all in one place so if you are interested in a comprehensive source for MySpace all in one place, this is it. You'll have to search the MySpace web site a long time to get all of this information. The second criticism is that the book focuses mainly on the social aspect of MySpace and hardly touches on its powerful business applications. While there are examples of people who acquired business through MySpace, that isn't the main focus of the book. So if you're looking for a book that goes into great detail about the business applications available at MySpace, you won't get it here. Nonetheless, any business can use any of the features highlighted in Yourspace: A Friend's Guide to [...], you'll just have to use your imagination. One feature I found interesting was the list of MySpace competitors. Though it's not exhaustive, it does give credibility to the author as someone who is not promoting MySpace for personal gain. I'd recommend this book. |
