The Youth Bible : New Century Version/Black,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Youth Bible An Ncv Resource That Teens Will Turn To For Guidance And Inspiration (Hardcover)
I highly recommend this bible. I work with youth and have found this version appeals to them very much as it is written in everyday english. Each page has a story that helps youth relate the scripture to their life.I have recommended this to all the youth in my classes and many are using it and have begun reading their bibles daily. Every youth ought to have the opportunity to read this bible!

This review is from: The Youth Bible An Ncv Resource That Teens Will Turn To For Guidance And Inspiration (Hardcover)
I first was exposed to the Youth Bible in 1997-98 as part of a Vacation Bible School class I was taking at the time. The Youth Bible (hereafter known as YB) was the translation of choice. At first, I was a bit lukewarm to YB, but after the chaplain I knew gave me a copy, I started to use it. Unlike other Teen Bibles, the YB educates our youth by giving short stories that have references to scripture and that are relevant to their lives. Besides the stories the Youth Bible also has introductions to each book of the Bible, maps, and a timeline. In doing thse things, the YB does not dumb down the message of scripture or pander to the lowest demographic. The translation used in the YB is the New Century Version (NCV). I found to be really good for many reasons. The NCV uses gender-sensitive language, which is a Good Thing. The New Century Version also does well with footnotes, using a "D" for words in the dictionary in the back and an "N" for more detailed footnotes, such as variants. The NCV is a strong contender for being the best thought for thought English Bible (compared to the Good News Translation and New Living Translation). Overall, the combination of a great translation, the stories, and other helps, the Youth Bible is a good Bible for young people.

The New Century Version is easy to read bec. it was originally designed for the deaf. Then it was marketed for children with reading level of grade 3. Then it was upgraded to be a bible for adults with a reading level of grade 5.
Text with symbol "n" points to a footnote definition. Text with symbol "d" points to a dictionary entry at the back. Includes lots of devotionals. Also has some in text notes, maps at the beginning of each book, and colored maps at the back.
