About the Author
Ginny is currently the codirector of the Center for Youth Ministry Studies and assistant professor of youth ministry at North Park University and Theological Seminary in Chicago, Illinois. Before teaching undergraduate and seminary students, she was involved in hands-on youth ministry for more than twenty years at various churches and camps, including serving on staff in the junior high ministry at Willow Creek Community Church. She is coauthor of the Youth Specialties resource, Youth Ministry Management Tools, as well as an editor and contributing author for Breaking the Gender Barrier in Youth Ministry.
Diane Elliot is an experienced writer, editor, teacher of adults and teenagers, and is director of operations at the Northwest Suburban Christian Academy in Wauconda, Illinois.

I have taught this book in a seminary setting. It has some very practical ideas to share with new and experienced youth ministers/youth pastors. There are basically three sections: Tools to Help You Manage Yourself; Tools to Help Your Manage Ministry; and Tools to Help You Stay in Youth Ministry. All three sections have some serious and some humorous ideas on how to manage ministry. There is also a CD with the book which has a great deal of ministry forms (budget, planning, calendar, evaluation, medical release, CV, etc.), which are in a format which allows you to bring them up on your computer and change whatever you want to change to make it fit your situation. Why start a form from scratch when someone has already started it for you? My students really benefitted from this book and had their eyes openned to several situations they hadn't thought about before.

Though this text is a little pricey, it's worth the investment. It is full of very practical, easy to follow ideas and info on keeping your youth ministry organized (e.g how to find/train/evaluate volunteers, organizing an event, organizing your workspace, finding a youth ministry position, etc). This is not one of those skimpy youth ministry books you can read in an hour--it is text-rich with helpful information, tips, and ideas.I have been doing youth ministry for over 13 years and I have found much useful info within the book and have made good use of the accompanying cd rom that contains all the forms printed in book plus a great program for organizing background info on all of your youth and adult leaders.

This book is genius!
I have been through youth ministry courses, I have been to youth specialties, I have been in minsitry (13 years) and I have read the books... You will not find a more comprehensive, nuts & bolts book out there. I frankly don't understand why this book isn't more popular. EVERY young pastor and minister should have this book on their shelf and reference it often. - organizing - leading - meetings - prep & planning - calendaring You will be as prepared and professional as people expect you to be if you will only take the time to study something as practical as this book. _ryan _russell pastor central christian church - mesa, az
