I have taught this book in a seminary setting. It has some very practical ideas to share with new and experienced youth ministers/youth pastors. There are basically three sections: Tools to Help You Manage Yourself; Tools to Help Your Manage Ministry; and Tools to Help You Stay in Youth Ministry. All three sections have some serious and some humorous ideas on how to manage ministry. There is also a CD with the book which has a great deal of ministry forms (budget, planning, calendar, evaluation, medical release, CV, etc.), which are in a format which allows you to bring them up on your computer and change whatever you want to change to make it fit your situation. Why start a form from scratch when someone has already started it for you? My students really benefitted from this book and had their eyes openned to several situations they hadn't thought about before.

Though this text is a little pricey, it's worth the investment. It is full of very practical, easy to follow ideas and info on keeping your youth ministry organized (e.g how to find/train/evaluate volunteers, organizing an event, organizing your workspace, finding a youth ministry position, etc). This is not one of those skimpy youth ministry books you can read in an hour--it is text-rich with helpful information, tips, and ideas.I have been doing youth ministry for over 13 years and I have found much useful info within the book and have made good use of the accompanying cd rom that contains all the forms printed in book plus a great program for organizing background info on all of your youth and adult leaders.

I have been through youth ministry courses, I have been to youth specialties, I have been in minsitry (13 years) and I have read the books...

You will not find a more comprehensive, nuts & bolts book out there. I frankly don't understand why this book isn't more popular. EVERY young pastor and minister should have this book on their shelf and reference it often.

A little outdated but I can't criticize that.

Gives a lot of ideas, breaks things down easily. I'm a very disorganized person, that it is helping me.

Havn't read the whole book yet, though so far I am will pleased. It is not really a how to manual. But like the title of the book says, it's more instruction on how to manage and organize things.

So far it has already changed many things. Plus it will give you ideas for a lot of stuff.

This resource is EXHAUSTIVE to say the least. From how to organize your office right down to where you need to put your trashcan. Everything from getting a job to leaving gracefully, planning budgets to insurance liabilities. The CD included must have 100 forms that are necessary to any ministry with students. Don't pass this up. The forms on the cd are completely customizable to your ministry. You need this book! What an incredible tool!

THis is a collection of excellent tools to use in youth ministry. When read as a reference upon which to build an organized ministry, it is an incredibly helpful book. I constantly refer to the forms in the back of the book which I then specialize for our youth group.

I am still in college so I have little experience with this book. However, I can already tell that its practicality for managing a youth ministry or preparing to manage one is a necessity for any youth pastor. It includes management tools such as how to fill out a good resume for this job, how to manage a budget, and learning to deal with some issues you may run into. It also includes a cd with templates for proper management. Very useful

I got this book to help boost my image as a competent, planning, scheduling, organizing, detail-oriented, type A personality. Which of course, I'm not because those types of personalities rarely get into youth ministry. But youth ministry does involve endless piles of administrative details that all have to be done precisely and accurately and if they aren't done it bothers the Powers That Be. So I got this book and so far it has been very helpful. A lot of quality thoughts and bullet point lists to help guide us creative types towards more streamlined, organized, and efficient ministries. My only complaint is the software that comes with it could use some help. It has chunky icons and graphics that make you think it is a lot older than it looks and, it's Achilles Heel, it doesn't work for Macs. It does work for Macs if you use Parallels and it does look like it could be a very powerful organizing tool for anyone willing to put in the time on it, so it isn't awful software. I would give the software a B and the book an A.

Just received this and I am already impressed with it as a resource! I didn't find much use for the hiring section, but in general it was a good read to help me understand how to better use my time and have a more effective ministry! DEFINITELY make sure the book you buy has the CD-ROM!

This is an awesome book that I would recommend to any worker in student ministry. It has helped me manage my ministry smarter and more as a pastor. I highly recommend this book!
