This review is for the Alpha Home Entertainment version. I had already bought the Reel Classics version. The Reel Classics version has a superior print quality. The Alpha version is "whited-out" in many places and the print quality is okay to fair. The good thing about the Alpha version is that it includes a bunch of missing scenes that were nowhere to be found in the Reel Classics version. The missing scenes deal with more of the courting that the two main characters engage in. They really add a lot to the film.

Overall, the film is pretty good. Marsh is fantastic and beautiful. The guy (I'm sorry I forget his name) is a little stodgy, but a pretty good actor. Mary Kornman plays a very small part as Bobbie's (Marsh's) fickle younger sister. The basic plot is that two young adults are set-up and framed for a jewelry store robbery. They spend 18 months in jail and find that getting work and keeping it, is tough when you're out on parole. They team up (in more ways than one; you know what I mean?!) to try and get back their good name. The film is rather good; mostly because of Marsh. Too bad she wasn't used more.

I don't know which version you'd want to buy. The problem is that the two versions out there have definite pros and cons. Alpha offers the only full-length version, but Reel Classics offers far and away the superior print quality. You make the choice! But if you like mid 30s movies, this B is a good bet. Its worth the money for Marian Marsh alone.

This was one of those films of the 1930's. Somewhat of a predictable story line, but great for period dress, and of course, if you are a Marian Marsh fan (the original "doll face actress) as yours truly is, what could be better?

Reel classic films has put this out and its good they have, for one of the most forgotten Hollywood sweethearts is in it: Marian Marsh. She'll always be known for her famous role as Trilby in the John Barrymore film Svengali as well as the 1932 film Beauty and the Boss (which I have not seen but has good reviews). She's always a joy to watch even if only for her delightful stage presence and beauty and she's the reason I bought this dvd and the reason I ultimately enjoyed it. The acting skills she has are a bonus and they really are rather good although not excellent.

She leads the billing ahead of Gordon Oliver who plays the incidental love interest. Plot synopsis: two strangers looking at jewelry through a store window get framed after robbers throw a brick through the window, steel some stuff, stuff some of the stuff in Marian and Gordon's pockets unawares (yes it is far fetched) and run away leaving the dumb founded twosome framed when officers immediately show up and find them with the stuff in their pockets. They both get 2 years in prison, get out after 18 months for good behavior, take the same train home, kinda bond and meet up later, sort of hook up (over a can of baked beans) and get separate apartments in the same building (very tame romance!). The conflict in the movie is how they try to get jobs and keep them all the while with the complication of having an undesirable prison record on their resume. Both decide that they have to clear their names.... I won't spoil the ending, but I think you can guess what has to happen. It has an 1930s "action" scene complete with bad editing and made me want to laugh. I guess it was put in for the male audience wanting some excitement.
