About the Author

Kathryn Seifert, PhD, is Executive Director of Eastern Shore Psychological Services, a private practice that focuses on serving children, adolescents, and at-risk youth and their families. She is a psychotherapist, author, speaker, and researcher specializing in family violence and trauma. She has over 30 years of experience in mental health, addictions, and criminal justice work. She has published numerous articles on violence, risk, and trauma, and is the author of CARE (Child and Adolescent Risk for Evaluation: A Measure of the Risk for Violent Behavior), a manual and assessment tool kit that allows mental health professionals to understand the risk of potential violence in youth. The kit is widely used and trusted as a premier risk assessment test in the industry. Besides CARE, Dr. Seifert has authored and published a training DVD on disrupted attachment patterns and a book entitled How Children Become Violent. She has lectured nationally and internationally. She is past President of the Maryland Psychological Association.

Dr. Kathryn Seifert, Executive Director of Eastern Shore Psychological Services, has worked for over 30 years in the areas of mental health, criminal justice, and addictions and has provided treatment and assessment services to youth and adults in community and correctional settings. She is a licensed psychologist in Maryland and holds a PhD from the University of Maryland Baltimore Campus in Community-Social Psychology. Additionally, she is a past President of the Maryland Psychological Association, a Diplomat of the American Board of Psychological Specialists of ACFEI, and has appeared on CNN, Fox News Radio, and Discovery ID. Dr. Seifert has specialized in the assessment and treatment of individuals who are at risk for violence and who are emotionally disturbed, behaviorally disordered, victimized, delinquent, and/or attachment disordered. She has lectured both nationally and internationally and provides training on the topics of "Predicting and Assessing the Risk for Violence," "Attachment Disorders," and "Attachment Violence & Assessment." Her book, How Children Become Violent, was published in October 2006. In addition to being a published author, Dr. Seifert has developed the CARE 2 Assessment. The CARE 2 Assessment is a valid and reliable instrument designed to assess the risk for violence and to determine the appropriate level and type of services an at risk youth requires. Dr. Seifert is developing an adult version of the Care 2.

Dr. Kathy created several guided imagery, relaxation CD's and guided journals for stress management. Dr. Seifert has authored self help articles and lectured nationally and internationally on healing from trauma and managing stress. Her CD's are used for relaxation, sports enhancement, pain management, and falling asleep.
