5.0 out of 5 stars One listen and the dead will be alive
If you're a Dead or Alive Fan or if you're just discovering Mr. Burns and his band this is a must have CD for your collection.
I think this is Dead or Alive's finest CD. The songs have held up well with the passing of time, which in my opinion is the mark of a well produced album. No one has been able to duplicate the classic sound of Dead or Alive. The songs on this...

3.0 out of 5 stars Excellent CD, poor re-mastering
I was one of those fans who shelled out the $50 for the original CD back in 1986. I played it to death at parties until it was stolen from my work back in 1994. I recently bought this copy and I can honestly say that it has really lost the sonic quality the original had. I have a decent hifi at home, nice 2-channel amp and a 1992 Nakamichi CD player with a really warm...

I think this is Dead or Alive's finest CD. The songs have held up well with the passing of time, which in my opinion is the mark of a well produced album. No one has been able to duplicate the classic sound of Dead or Alive. The songs on this CD will have you up and moving from the first note - it will spin you round like a record. So DJ Hit That Button & get ready to lose control. Warning!!! this CD is NOT for wallflowers or the weak at heart! Do not pass on this CD!

5.0 out of 5 stars Dancequake!, July 26, 2002
By

From beginning to end this album is relentless & just doesn't stop...it keeps giving it to ya from one song to the next. Oh the glorious 80's. Oddly enough my favorite song became "In Too Deep", even though I bought the album for the hit "You Spin Me Round (Like A Record). Other gems are "DJ Hit That Button", "Big Daddy of the Rhythm", "Cake And Eat It", "Lover Come Back To Me", & "My Heart Goes Bang". This album is like a sinful pleasure and should be in any serious music collection.

Dead Or Alive made it big with "You Spin Me Round" back in the mid 80's and is considered a one hit wonder. However, they have made music that was just as good as their big hit. "Youthquake" is full of silly pop/electronic music that is fun and easy to dance to. "Lover Come Back To Me" and "I Wanna Be A Toy" are great tracks. "It's Been A Long Time" is a nice departure from their usual stuff, and gets somewhat deep musically, and lyrically.

5.0 out of 5 stars Extra tracks info..., April 17, 2009
This review is from: Youthquake (Audio CD)
You must know this album is awesome or you wouldn't be here looking at it. This is to let you know about the "extra tracks". The best news is that it has the Performance Mix of You Spin Me Round which always should have been on there since it was on the cassette version, as well as the Extended Mix of Lover Come Back to Me. Cake and Eat It doesn't fade in on this one, it just starts. It's Been a Long Time starts with Pete saying, "You could be the first in line," before it starts. The weirdest thing is that what should be the regular version of You Spin Me Round begins with Pete saying, "Rock it" four times. I'm not sure what the point of that is, but it's there. If you're a hardcore fan, then it's worth the extra money just to have the Performance Mix on CD. But if you're just a passing fan, then the regular version of this album is probably best.

This album (when it first came out was still a "album" :) is one of the best of all time!!!! This album has transcended over time VERY VERY well. It's hard to hear it in these songs but Pete Burns has such a beautiful voice. Definitely a collector's item you'll want to have years later!!!

What can I say? "Youthquake" is perhaps the most perfect high-energy-new wave-disco-pop album ever made. Fifteen years later, it sounds fresh as a daisy and still drives the listener into delirious bliss.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Snapshot of the GOOD 80s, March 8, 2008
This review is from: Youthquake (Audio CD)
When it comes to electronic music, nobody has yet to top the 80's. Before you all howl like spoilt kids let me say that the whole dance/electronica movement of the last 20 years has been ok but the innovators are guys like Dead or Alive.

Forget, if you wish, the uber hit "You spin me round" this baby is full of real songs. I will admit that a few of the sounds are so 1980's and have been used to the point of no return but the songs are there. Case in point being "My heart Goes Bang" which could easily be done by a hard rock act or "Been A Long Time" that strays from the pop style and closes the album on a leave you wanting more note.

So if you can get past the aforementioned uber hit and Pete Burns' attempts at out wierding Michael jackson in the facial surgery department you will find this to be an excellent example of what was good about the 80's electronic music scene.

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic 80's synth-disco, November 7, 2008
This review is from: Youthquake (Audio CD)
If you haven't heard the best track from this record, "You Spin Me 'Round," you're probably over 50, under 12, or dead. You certainly never went to a dance club in the mid-to-late 1980's, because that song was de rigueur in those days, and for good reason. This is high-energy dance music that will get anybody on the dance floor.

But why stop there? This album (which pre-dates CDs) has some terrific tracks, including "I Wanna Be a Toy" (one of my personal favorites), "My Heart Goes Bang", "In Too Deep", and others.

Just get it, play it, and dance your way to happiness. Get spun 'round, baby, like a record.

Twenty years ago in college, I used to dance around my dorm room to this entire album (and I do mean "album"). I just re-discovered this while loading my Ipod, and it still makes me want to dance 20 years later! It has so many great songs it's hard to choose the best. Definitely one to add to your music collection. 80's music fan or not, it's just as great today as it was then.
