5.0 out of 5 stars Profound Music from a Guitar Genius!, July 15, 1999

I first heard this when just released on LP, back in the early 1980's, and the aural impact is just as great today! There are subtle differences between the ECM CD (note the added distorted bass guitar that enters half way through track 1 on the CD - a great effect - and the mix for track 4 is very different on the CD, much less "country-ish"). Though Tibbetts' music has become more sophisticated - and louder! - on recent CD's, all of the seeds for greatness are exhibited on this indispensable disc. This is truly great stuff!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars SHREDS- YR WILL FORCE YOUR THIRD EYE OPEN !, November 17, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Yr (Audio CD)
This Album is Awesome! Tibbetts is a musical shape shifter-His music can go straight to the unconscious and evoke the most primal pre-verbal feelings. I had an eerie sense of Deja'vu the first time I heard his music. On YR as on other album's he proves to be doing things that no one else is; A rarity these days! Not since Jimi Hendrix has someone experimented with feedback with such raging fervor. While other's imitate, Tibbetts is a wizard of creation. Like the rare species of folklore and legend that are so difficult to catch a glimpse of, or seeing a comet blaze by that comes close to the Earth only once in million years...Get the point?

5.0 out of 5 stars the ultimate psychedelic guitar album, August 18, 1998
By

Melt "Axis: Bold As Love", "Tubular Bells" and "Houses of the Holy" together on the banks of the Ganges and you'll have some approximation of what this masterpiece sounds like. Recorded on an 8-track in his home studio in 1980, Steve Tibbetts' second album features densely layered electric and acoustic guitars interwoven with the amazing percussion of Marc Anderson. If you are a fan of any of the albums mentioned in the first sentence, by all means pick up this album.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of my favourites, April 2, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Yr (Audio CD)
One of my favourites, Tibbetts represents sort of a guitarists' guitarist. His style is, to me, well up front and his technique sounds avant-garde. Like Leo Kottke, Ronnie Montrose, Don Ross and a bunch of others worth the nickname of 'guitar heroes', Steve Tibbetts' urgency as a musician is definitely important. YR and Exploded View are the key albums coming to my mind's eye while considering a first purchase. If you favour more than average sophisticated music, you should give it a try.

5.0 out of 5 stars A tour de force of instrumental guitar wizardry, March 17, 2000
This review is from: Yr (Audio CD)
This cd is an example of the musician as artist transcending established musical boundaries and spurning any limitations that commercial interests might have imposed. Any fan of guitar innovation or anyone appreciative of experiencing a true artistic vision should have this cd. Musicians and deep thinkers - this is a must !

Steve Tibbetts is a fantastic musician. This album is a superb combination of acoustic and electric guitar strung together by the etheral sounds of the far east. He would be hard pressed to out do this album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Extraordinary, June 18, 2001
This review is from: Yr (Audio CD)
This is a must for every guitar player/ music fun. It's solid, strong and innovative with Steve playing at his best. It has beautiful moments and also some hard ones with the electric guitar screaming and jumping all over the place. It's amazing how this composer captures all the escense of the instrument and creates an atmosphere that can vary a 100% during the track/song. Probably this is the most mature and coherent work of Steve as of today. If you really appreciate the innovatives works on the guitar, such as the ones related to Robert Fripp, Adrian Belew, David Torn or Pat Metheny you should have this record, which I think is one of the best (ever).
