I was always satisfied with the product--it was a fantastic skin exfoliator for the face and body, and it was doing more for my skin than I realized. I knew it helped with black/white heads and removing dead skin, but it was controlling other types of blemishes too.
After it was taken off the market, I notice that my skin is prone to acne breakouts--which was never the case before.
I've got a stupid bump right over my left eyebrow now--that never would have been the case when I was washing with Pernox. These blemishes last weeks!
Several reviews listed Yu-Be foaming Skin Polish as a possible replacement, so I gave this product a try.
I wanted to like it--I desperately need a new product, but this is just not quite the same. It's better than nothing, it's giving me some exfoliation, but it's not Pernox. The scrubbing particles are either too large or too few in the mixture and the active ingredients are not controlling my skin issues.
My skin feels soft from the new product, but the acne control is not the same and I'm not getting the same level of pore cleansing, so while it might be a good product for some--it's not my Pernox!
Pernox had a very fine sand-like grit that I've never found in any other product. The fine grit is what takes out all the imperfections in the pores and gives your skin an almost stripped down feeling--without ever drying it out. There was not much moisture in Pernox--all the other scrubs tend to be liquid with some scrubbing particles suspended in the solution.
Pernox was all skin scrubbing particles with anti-bacterial sulfer and salicilic acid added in.Read more ›
Consistency: I would say this product is a step up from the St. Ives Apricot Scrub in that it's a bit more coarse and exfoliates a bit better. I also like that it's foamy; the combo makes my skin feel really clean without having to use my normal cleanser before or after.
Scent: I love the fresh, tea tree oil scent. It's refreshing, but not so "foo-foo" as to scare away my husband from using it on occasion.
Overall Effect: Great. My skin is much softer and smoother after each use.
Size/Value: For the price, I think this is a bargain. It's a pretty big tube (bigger than St. Ives), and you get significantly more for your money than you would of any of the higher-end brands.
For those of you who have tried other scrubs/polishes, here's how I found it compared.
-Fresh brand Brown Sugar Body Polish: I liked the Fresh product better for my body as a spa-like treatment because it exfoliated well and had the added bonus of leaving behind a lot of moisture, but like the Yu-Be better as something that can be used for the body AND face. (There's no way I'd use the Fresh product on my face.) Also, Yu-Be's 7 oz. tube for $18 is much easier to swallow than Fresh's $38 for the same size tub.
-Clinique's 7-Day scrub: I really liked the creaminess of the Clinique product but the bead size was similar in terms of effectiveness. For $19.50 (Sephora.com) you only get 3.4 oz of Clinique, so again Yu-Be wins.
-St. Ives Apricot scrub: The Yu-Be polish is a little more gritty and effective, and personally, I prefer the scent of the Yu-Be; it just feels more refreshing to me. However, since the price of the St. Ives is $2.99 for 6 oz. (a steal!), when I use a scrub/polish on my feet from time to time, I save my money and grab my St. Ives.
Overall, a great purchase.
Will continue to use product.
