3.0 out of 5 stars Not a movie, but otherwise exactly what you'd expect
My first impression is that at least Amazon is good enough to clarify this, because the box certainly doesn't state ANYWHERE that it is only a "Part 1" of 2. My second impression is, at least I got it in a bargain bin, because I don't feel like I got a "full-length feature film."

Diehard fans of the series should already know exactly what they're going to get:...

4.0 out of 5 stars Personal Criteria of YGO: Capsule Monsters, March 15, 2006
This review is from: Yu-Gi-Oh!: Movie - Capsule Monsters, Part 1 (DVD)
Well-we all knew very well that 4KIDS had gotten at least "something" of a successful income from the mildly-famed or infamous (depending on your own point of view) Yu-Gi-Oh! The Movie: Pyramid of Light/Yu-Gi-Oh Hikari no Pyramid. Punch line? You really couldn't expect them "not" to pull something like that off again-at least not for a few "years," and that turned out to be very, "very" true.

I have personally seen part of this twelve episode O.V.A. "movie" (made possible from downloads uploaded from Ireland television-where the first four episodes were aired in secret) entitled Yu-Gi-Oh Capsule Monsters-and pretty much, it's everything you'd expect from 4KIDS, combining the not-so-decent writing from the American Edit version of the Doma Arc series, plus the elemental game properties featured in the Duelist Kingdom series.

Although the first impression of this anime series is corny (and perhaps even unsatisfying) the film does have its funny parts, which include Yuugi's friends doing a parody of "the can-can," along with other various other forms of physical humor through-out the show. Moreover, it seems that Joey's/Jounouchi's "classical scenes of ignorance" never cease to satisfy, even in this. ^_^

It is still unclear, however if Pegasus, Malik, Bakura, Kaiba or anyone else other than the "friendship" crew will be featured in this movie. One can only hope though... (if Amazon is correct in assuming that this is part "one" of a twelve episode series)

The DVD contains many monsters not seen ever before, in glorious animation, such as Aqua Madoor (a monster I have come to love when it comes to the first line of defense in the card game) along with the iniquitous and deadly villain from the Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters 8: Reshef of Destruction video game (do I really need to say who exactly?). You will also see the return of old favorites, including the Dark Magician and the Celtic Guardian, along with the sweet and irresistibly adorable and cuddly "Kuribo." (:

Once again, this DVD will only be amusing to Yu-Gi-Oh fans and "them" alone-anyone else (above the age of thirteen or so) may be better off either starting at the beginning of the Yu-Gi-Oh: Duel Monsters series (un-cut version "highly" recommended) or just steering clear from this DVD entirely.

4.0 out of 5 stars To clear this up for all of you, April 21, 2006
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Yu-Gi-Oh!: Movie - Capsule Monsters, Part 1 (DVD)
Hi, I'm the person thats 14, but dosn't get a amazon account ( I probally should), and I am going to clear this up for all of you.

I was actually hoping for this, as the forums of chat sites raged on about 4Kids making a Movie after Battle City, and they should do the same between Grand Championship and Pharoah's Memories. And it is, and it's pretty decent too.

Capsule Monsters appeared in the Yu-Gi-Oh! Manga orinigal Graphic Novels (Volumes 3,5,6) by Kazuki Takashi. They then made a not-so-succesful game for the PS2 system based on it. People enjoyed it, but didn't want it to be taken far like they did with Dungeon Dice (the whole toy-line thing). But I guess Kazuki Takashi (creator of Yu-Gi-Oh! Manga/Comic) decided to team up with 4Kids to make another lousy "Extra Piece in the Anime".

Capsule Monsters orinigally aried in Ireland January 2006. People were shocked to find out a new Yu-Gi-Oh! Series has hit! Some were happy, others wern't that crazy over it. But nobody had no warning about these episodes and almost about everyone missed the first two. But episode 3 & 4 were leaked on the internet, and then the series was stopped for some reason. It is said to be a 12-Episode Series and I guess there making it into a Movie.

Of course, instead of just showing it to us as episodes 4Kids had to make it a Movie. And yes, for some reason, they cut out sceens from their own work to make it look more like a Movie. Thank God inside the DVD these scenes can be fond.

Now finally the storyline. Joey wins tickets for a vacation, and takes the whole gang + Grandpa to a nice relaxing trip. But when there plan crashes, a Pryamid is right infront of them. Wierd since thier millions of miles form Egypt, Joey enters it, nd the Gang follows. They have been transported to a Capsule Monster World, a game that Yugi was just introducing the the Gang before they left. Now they Yugi, Tea, Joey, Tristan, and Grandpa must unlock the Capsules all over the world to unleash Duel Monsters and defend themselves from the other creatures of the world. But when they discover that if they beat 5 Challenges, they can go free. Now with thier Capsule Shooters ( A Capsule Monster version of the Duel disk ) the gang must defeat this villian and escape the world.

Some things puzzle me the most. This is that in the Theme Song that added pictures from each season, and has Dartz, Pegasus, Bakura, and Marik in the villian part of the Theme Song, even though we all know there old pictures and we highly doubt they'll be in it. But this keeps are suspision up, and they might cut it out of the movie and just have made it for when it aired. Kaiba will not appear in this Movie, sorry Seto fans.

So hopefully this will clear things up for you. Buy this DVD, if you can, and watch it. It's a ok series overall, and THANK GOD dosn't focus around Duel Monsters like the rest of the series does.

So enjoy!

If you liked the Yu-Gi-Oh! movie, then you'll love this. It's a twelve episode micro season using the same art style that the movie did. I've already seen one of the episodes and loved it. The gang have so much trouble in the capsule world.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Summary No One Else Has Been Able To Get Right, May 16, 2006
This review is from: Yu-Gi-Oh!: Movie - Capsule Monsters, Part 1 (DVD)
Here's the deal about Capsule Monsters:
* They're calling it a "movie" even though the episodes are the same length as the usual ones, just because the animation style is closer to the movie than anything else.

* It is the first volume of 12 total episodes.

* 4 of those episodes were accidentally aired on Irish television, with episodes 3-4 floating around the web. But if you want the whole story, you'll have to buy this DVD.

* These aren't "cut" scenes from the original Japanese; this is an entirely new arc that has not been seen before, and is being released in sync with the new Capsule Monsters tabletop game. It has nothing to do with the video game nor the manga arc of the same name.

* This arc promises to be amusing, but generally is a rehash of all the duels against evil/darkness that you've seen before. It takes place between the Orichalchos/Waking the Dragons arc and the KC Grand Prix/Pharaoh's Memory arcs, so don't expect any reference to either of them.

* Characters like Kaiba, Malik, Isis, etc. will NOT be making an appearance in this arc. The cast is limited to Joey, Tea, Tristan, Yugi, and Grandpa (Solomon Mutou).

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT MOVIE!, May 29, 2006
This review is from: Yu-Gi-Oh!: Movie - Capsule Monsters, Part 1 (DVD)
As I'm saying, this time the 4kids did a very good job at Yugioh Capsule Monster, lol. The art is great, the action is enough to make me stick with the TV, and there is also many funny parts as well, you know who I mean right? I'm not regret just to register into 4kids to see it online. I'm not buying the movie yet, I'm going to wait until Japan have it. The movie is so GREAT, better than dueling alot! This one only have 12 episodes, but I hope they have more, but oh well, better than to have nothing.

PS: Did I mentioned that Yami looked really really hot in the Dark Magician armor :p I know he's going to have more armor in another 6 epi.

5.0 out of 5 stars Recommended, May 27, 2006
This review is from: Yu-Gi-Oh!: Movie - Capsule Monsters, Part 1 (DVD)
I enjoyed this. The art is nice, there's drama and action. They finally got it right this time.

While on vacation, a mysterious man tricks Yugi's gang into searching a pyramid for Yugi's missing grandfather. They accidently uncover a world of Capsule Monsters. Upon reuniting, our heroes begin solving clues and riddles, playing the bigger game of trying to find their way home by completing five tests of courage and honor. They must use their monsters and the terrain with strategy. Yugi gains a special gold armor allowing him to merge with his favorite monsters, but drains his energy. Each of the group has a monster or two with special abilities, flight, healing, etc. Same typical fun. It's a fight for their lives in each new world. So what's the real plot at work here, who will win the power of the king? What do Yugi's recurring nightmares point to? I wish there were more of the other characters, but I'm staying tooned for Volume 2!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Movie, May 27, 2006
This review is from: Yu-Gi-Oh!: Movie - Capsule Monsters, Part 1 (DVD)
I just watched this and i think it was top notch. If you watched the Yu-Gi-Oh Movie, you know it was pretty much one giant duel. But this is so much more. I dont know the background of this series but it was funny and entertaining and surprisingly without any cards this show has a lot more action. It is kind of like the few episodes when there minds get sucked into kaibas video game. Only know lifepoints, and there are no weak monsters. They all have their own strengths and even tristans little duck creature can take down some big huge monsters. The only problem with this movie is...No ending. I know there will be a second part or so, but i cant find any info on when it will come out. I would definitely reccomend this, its only $10 and you get a good chunk of a non-dueling Yu-Gi-Oh. That almost never happens.

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT MOVIE!, May 25, 2006
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Yu-Gi-Oh!: Movie - Capsule Monsters, Part 1 (DVD)
This movie is great! I got it just yesterday and its very funny. Worth the money. Dan Green is great in it! Although the mouth flap (Yami's mouth movement) for Yami isn't very good because there are few scenes when Yami finishes talking and his mouth is closed you hear Dan Green talking, finishing what Yami is saying. Like for example LOL :

When Yami and Tea are talking:

Tea: ....No Pharaohs-

Yami: Uh...Tea?

Tea: Oh..Hi Pharaoh.

Yami: Ready to do this?

When Yami says 'this' his mouth is closed.

But overall I love it! DAN GREEN IS AWSOME IN IT AS YUGI AND YAMI! This movie really focuses on the 4 friends plus Yami and Grandpa. I would consider this movie as one of 4kid's best movies.

5.0 out of 5 stars A whole new game!!!, May 23, 2006
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Yu-Gi-Oh!: Movie - Capsule Monsters, Part 1 (DVD)
I was so excited to watch this on [...] (Exclusive One-Time-Only Premiere), and I think that 4Kids did a good job. Despite the lame comments dished out by basically everyone, the plot was pretty cool, and it gives us a small break from our beloved Duel Monsters. While we do see the same monsters, the gameplay is entirely different, and unless you already know how to play from the video games, the rules aren't really explained at all.
This is only part one of the movie, though. I can see how 4Kids had to split the whole plotline in two, because it would be incredibly long if it were all smashed into one movie.
Overall, I give this movie 5 stars, because the plotline's pretty good (Though you can tell it's American-made, like the first movie, and not from Japan like rest of series is, since there isn't the daily dose of Japanese violence that we all know and love),and the animation's pretty decent.
It's definitely worth buying!!!
