OK, so I'm 25 and female. What in the world am I doing reviewing a Yu-Gi-Oh! CD? Well, that's because this CD is probably one of the best CDs from an English Dubbed anime that I've heard in a LONG time. The extended version of the theme is completely worth the purchase price of the CD, but it doesn't stop there! Just about every song on the CD is a fun expression of the themes presented in the show. And they're just fun songs. I can easily see myself sitting around the table playing some Duel Monsters with my nephew as I listen. Some of the highlights include: I'm Back, Your Move, No Matter What, and Face up Face down. Even the instrumental tracts are good. There are a couple of songs that have a bit of cheese to them, We'll Be There comes to mind as does World of Yugioh!. But even these grow on you. One notable absence from the CD is Not Gonna Panic. And it is definately missed.

Of course, I personally would love to see the inclusion of the Japanese themes, especially the opening and closing from the third season. And my ultimate dream on any American CD from a dubbed anime is to see the actual voice actors singing some of their songs. But I guess that will remain a pipe dream at least for the time being.

Anyway, if you or anyone you know are a Yu-Gi-Oh! fan, they will throughly enjoy this CD. And the stickers that come with it are a wonderful piece of laginappe.

Evil Cupcake of Doom (In the deep recesses of your mind..) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Yu-Gi-Oh: Music to Duel By (Audio CD)
I'll say this: the album's not on my top ten list, but it certainly won't be at the bottom of my CDs either. I liked it, but I expected it to have a bit more...edge or somethin' like that. But that's just me. It's very enjoyable to listen to, I've listed ratings of the songs below:

(1) Yu-Gi-Oh theme- This is obviously the theme song, but on the album it's longer, that really cool part with the ancient Egyptian sounding violin part is awesome, and the line "your move" is more easily heard. A good way to start it off. I give it 4/5

(2)Time 2 Duel- It aint bad. It sums up the basic point of the show really. It's a rock/punk/rap beat that's really enjoyable. But I have to say that the chorus is really, really ANNOYING. Sorry, but it is. I give it a 3/5

(3) I'm Back- A must for Kaiba fans, after all that's who the song's about. Mainly about the conspiracy at Kaiba corp., the abduction of Mokuba, etc. I have to say I LOVE the background music in this, and the lyrics are good too! I personally think they coulda left out the dialogue from the show...but that's just me. I'm not a huge Kaiba fan and like I said that's who the song's about. I give this a 4/5

(4) Summon the Dragon- This is an awesome instrumental..possibly a theme for the Blue Eyes or maybe a theme for all the dragons in general. But whatever it is, it sounds very good, I was quite impressed. I give this a 5/5

(5) Your Move- This is the reason I bought this album!! I ADORE this song so much! It's all rockish and stuff! ^__^ The lyrics rock ( I love the "Egyptian secrets" part and the music blew me away. A bunch of my friends accuse me of loving this song because it's mainly about Yami (AKA Yugioh..which means King of Games) and well uh...*blush* Yeah, that's pert of why I like it so sue me! I give this a 5/5

(6)Duel Madness- Oh my. This song rocks!! I can't get enough of the techno-soundin' melody of this!! It's so..so...I can't find words for it!! I love this song...yep *thinks this may be another Kaiba song..or not I dunno* I give this a 5/5

(7) No Matter What- I don't like it. There I said it. I didn't like this song when it was on the show and I don't like it now. It's all...sappy...and..friendly.. Not my style. It does have a good chorus..but I'm afraid I must give this a 2/5.

(8) Exodia- Well 3 guesses what this is about! Another instrumental and I think this was the background music to when Yami was dueling Kaiba in the 1st episode..but I'm not sure, I haven't seen that eppie in a while. the very end of this song's quite exciting also. I gve it a 4/5

(9) Ahead of the Game- Dang, this thing's CATCHEY! This was stuck in my head all day! But more to the point, I liked this. It seemed kinda new-wave to me for some reason. I can't help but think that this i also about Kaiba (mentions a lot of stuff about technology and how he's "ahead of the game," hence the title. Ah well. I give this a 3/5
(
10) We'll Be There- Ummmmm...no. I'm sorry but I have to say that I hate this song. It's all soft..Tea-like! Bleach! But I will say that the chorus makes up for the sap. It's reminiscent of the songs You Can Do It (if you really try) and Never Too Far From Home, from the Pokemon albums. I give this a 2/5. Woulda been a 1/5 but I can't help liking that chorus darn it!

(11) Face Up Face Down- I like. I like a lot. It's sung by Pegasus..or what sounds like Pegasus(has a very good singing voice. Who woulda thunk it?). It's VERY good, it describes him to a tee! Not a single flaw in this, great music, lyrics, beat and I honestly think what makes this song so awesome is that Pegasus himself sings it. Very foreboding soundin' also. I can honestly say this is my favorite song on the whole CD. I give this a 5/5

(12)Millenium Battle- yet another instrumental. But I think this may be the best on the entire album. I found it powerful and a bit inspiring..but that's just me. I give it a 4/5

(13)Heart of the Cards- Ooooooooooohhh. I liked this too. Another Yami theme (yay!) I love the begining it recites the "in ancient times a game was played with both sprit and mind" part. I like the guy what sings it too. I give it a 4/5

(14)World of Yu-Gi-Oh- Well it about..the world of Yu-Gi-Oh. It describes and sums up the 1st season really. I liked it lots. Also quite catchy..and upbeat too. I give it a 4/5.

And that's all the songs. I suggest only getting this if you're a fan of the anime or the manga otherwise you won't know what the heck's going on. All in all it's a good album, not fantastic, but good nonetheless. A true prize for a true fan, and as the title of the album says, it's really good music to duel by.

5.0 out of 5 stars Total Must-Buy, January 16, 2003
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Yu-Gi-Oh: Music to Duel By (Audio CD)
This CD is, in one word, incredible.
1. Yugioh! Theme
This is an extended version of the theme song. Very nice- it has really cool Egyptian music in the background, and it's still recognizable, but it's different enough to keep you interested.
2. Time 2 Duel
One of my favorites. Fast-paced, cool lyrics, very nice song overall.
3. I'm Back
Kaiba's song. This is another one I really like. It has great lyrics that really remind me of Kaiba (ex: "You thought you were so tough, had it all under control. Now nothing's enough- gonna take back what you stole. Give it up- cause now I'm back.") And awesome guitar music at the end.
4. Summon the Dragon
No lyrics, but I like it that way. It's a nice battle track.
5. Your Move
I really like this song too. It has fast music, cool lyrics that are easy to understand, and is all-around cool.
6. Duel Madness
This one's kinda weird. The rap is done it a mechanical sort of voice, but I guess it's meant to be like that because at the beginning it mentions Kaiba's technology.
7. No Matter What
I LOVE this song. So great.
8. Exodia
No lyrics, cool music.
9. Ahead of the Game
Kaiba-like, egotistical music. "All my technology, all my smarts, my creativity will rip you apart." Cool song.
10. We'll be there
Awww... duet between Tea and Tristan about friendship and sticking together. May not appeal to everyone, but hey, I like it.
11. Face Up Face Down
Go Darren Dunstan! (a.k.a. Pegasus) This is for sure the real voice actor. Chilling song, eerie Pegasus-like lyrics, easy to listen to over and over and over...
12. Millennium Battle
The third and last battle track on the CD. Again, good music with a good beat.
13. Heart of the Cards
Almost the whole thing is that mechanical-sounding rap again. It kinda weirds me out, but no matter- it's a good song anyways.
14. World of Yugioh!
Don't be fooled by the title making it sound like a sing-along song. Great words that go along with the TV show, and SUCH a fun refrain.
Take it from me: Incredible.

5.0 out of 5 stars My absolute favorite CD in the world!!, November 16, 2002
By
Jocasta Stephenson (Versailles, KY USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Yu-Gi-Oh: Music to Duel By (Audio CD)
This has to be the GREATEST CD I've ever had the honor of listening to, much less owning it! I have to tell you, I'm very picky about what I like and don't like. This, however I LOVE! I've seen some reviews about it that weren't... well, they weren't very nice. But, you know what they say, "no accounting for taste." I think this perfectly captures the essence of the first season of Yu-Gi-Oh! here in America! Love every single one of these! Now, for my track-by track review (I happen to be listening to them as I write)! The only slight disappointment is that "I'm Not Gonna Panic" wasn't on here... But, hey, you can't have everything, right?

1. Yu-Gi-Oh! Theme- This, of course, is the extended version of the imfamous opening theme. The one everyone seems to hate, for some odd reason. Granted, I do wish it had more singing to it, but the Egyptian music is rather cool.
2. Time 2 Duel- THIS is a rockin' track! Very confident, very cool. It has Yami Yugi written ALL over it!

3. I'm Back- Yep, this is Kaiba's image song, all right! This wins my award for "Attitude" on here, that's for sure. And you get to hear more here than what we all did in the episode, "Duel With A Ghoul," ending with a very nice musical fade.
4. Summon The Dragon- Quite a cool instrumental piece here. Though it has no words, this is nothing to sneeze at.
5. Your Move- I'm told this is the song they played during the Weevil/Yugi match, but I don't see a whole lot of resemblance. Another rockin' song! I especially like the rap-like "Egyptian secrets are revived, ancient powers have survived. When wrong from right's not black and white, friends will have win the fight. Solve the Puzzle's mystery, unlock a hero's destiny. Now, alter egos, no one knows, side by side, to fight their foes. Hey! It's time to duel! His duel identities, they struggle for control! Two personalities inhabiting one soul!"
6. Duel Madness- Wins my award for "High Energy," hands down.
7. No Matter What- MY FAVORITE SONG ON THIS CD! I mean, YEOWCH! And it's also an extended version of what we heard at the start of Joey and Yugi's duel! Perfect description of their friendship! Seriously, it rules all! Here's why, aside from the whole of the song, that is^_^. "I don't wanna give up, but I will never give in. Don't wanna duel with my very best friend. I could throw the whole match, let him win every play. But, with so much at stake, I just cant walk away! Though I need a victory, you've always meant the world to me.
And that's one thing that will never change!" EXTRAORDINARILY POWERFUL!!!!!!! Need I say more?
8. Exodia- Another of those "battle tracks." No singing here, either, yet the music's addictive....
9. Ahead Of The Game- Ok, this just SCREAMS Kaiba... Therefore, it wins my "Ego" award.
10. We'll Be There- Aw, c'mon. Ya knew it would happen... 'COURSE there was gonna be a sappy Tea song here. I think it's very sweet. "Support" award goes this one, no contest.
11. Face-Up, Face-Down- We go from sweet to down-right SPOOKY... Interesting change. I must say that I've never heard a villian song that I liked.... 'til now. I don't know why, but this is quite fascinating.... This sooooo fits Pegasus! I think it's actually sung by the voice actor, too. If not, it sure sounds a WHOLE lot like him! Who knew the dude could sing? Go figure. Gets my "Watch Your Back" award, definitely.
12. Millenium Battle- This one's also another "battle track." Quite haunting, actually. My favorite of this sort.
13. Heart Of The Cards- I just LIKE this one! That's all there is to it. A tad hard to understand when they're talking about the Millenium Items, but that's very brief.
14. World Of Yu-Gi-Oh!- When I saw this on the track list, I thought it was some little kiddie song (how I got that notion, i have no clue, considering the rest of these), but it really surprised me. Overall, this has to be my second favorite on the CD. It's just so..... charming. Hehe. No idea why.

Ok, hope this help you people! Now, stop listening to me blather on, and go buy this CD!!!!!!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars It's time to duel!!!, January 27, 2003
This review is from: Yu-Gi-Oh: Music to Duel By (Audio CD)
This is the ultimate CD!!!

My friend and I listen to it all the time when we duel and it REALLY does fit in (like this one time, during Kaiba's song (track 3) I just yelledout "I attack with the Blue Eyes White Dragon!", in time to the music of course. It made the game even more fun).
The music is really fitting to the game, but some songs ya too busy grooving in your chair to really pay attention.

Sure I'm 18, but its a great CD for a great game. I mean, I'm sat here with a deck in my hand as I type, I admit it - I'm a Yu-Gi-Oh! addict.

I recommend this CD to ANYONE who loves yu-gi. Oh, and ladies - listen to track number 11 for that wonderful guy we know & love as maxamillion Pegasus.

PS: I am under orders to say Joey rocks.

Thats another thing. He SINGS. And he has a GORGEOUS voice, the CD is worth getting just to hear it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Yugioh-Music to duel by, August 22, 2005
This review is from: Yu-Gi-Oh: Music to Duel By (Audio CD)
I'm used to giving hundreds of reviews so this one won't differ from any...

Well the Cd could've been a lot better for starters, but other than that it has some great tunes and it just makes you go through much emotions such as sadness, humor, bravery, and yes even boredom(>.<)I find this Cd suitable for all the Anime fans out there! Everyone else well...let's just say you wont feel one with the music(^.^)

The 'Yugioh theme' is an extended version of the theme we fans would normally hear on TV. It's very rythmic, filled with a great beat who never dies off. Personally I like this song!

Another one of my favorites is 'Duel madness' it has a modern heavy rock theme to it, and it's just one of many Kaiba songs! It's a great "rock out" song but only if you're a yugioh fan. it helps a great deal more if you're a duelist!

'I'm back' is a song we fans all got a glimpse of. It was the episode when Kaiba hacks into his own computer and crashes Pegasus computer with his own sattelite in order to help Yugi win the duel against his 'evil sorta Yami self who was a ghost' Great song and it's another one of our fav blue eyed CEO theme songs! It even tells us a little bit about his character and even foreshadows his future(0.0)ohhh...

Yet another great song in this album is 'we'll be there!' Who ever told you otherwise is probably not a Tea(Anzu)fan. It's definately not boring and it's really encouraging having an acoustic sorta beat to it! The gang has a role in this song but into the end.My summary: it's a song about friendship, and isn't that what the whole show is based upon? Friendship conquers all, well this song does it aswell! Tea can sure sing, she hits a high note lol!now who says cheerleaders cant't sing?hmm...

Well Pegasus does sing in this song-(gasp I know)- whose next with the micro-phone, Kaiba? lol, no. I won't judge a song "bad or boring" simply just because I dont like the character okay!(personally, not a fan of Pegasus but ohwell)...So the song is overall on an average level,in my opinion, it's definately a dueling song the title says it all 'face up face down'has an eerie ring, which makes it all more anxious to hear!

The instrumental songs are basically fill ins who were very popular songs used in the series. I dont really like them but you be the judge of that!

As for the rest, such as 'Ahead of the game' there fair having sort of an 8o's beat to it. There not really modern so it'd prob be a drag to us teens, but all in all it's a great Cd. So take out your dueling decks, bring your friends, invite the cheerleader, and don't forget your rival cause it's time to duel and your new Cd will help you be ahead of the game lol(^.^)

I'm Back - 7/10 - Ok song, not my favorite
Summon the Dragon - 6/10 - Boring song
Your Move - 10/10 - Makes you wanna duel

No Matter What - 10/10 - Great Song!
Exodia - 4/10 - Another instrumental!
Ahead of the Game - 5/10 - WAAY too repetative!
We'll Be There - 0/10 - By FAR the worst song on the CD!
Face Up Face Down - 5/10 - Pegasus? Singing? LOL!
Millenium Battle - 4/10 - ANOTHER instrumental!
Heart of the Cards- 1/10 - 2nd worst song in the CD.
World of Yu-Gi-Oh!- 10/10 - One of the best song on the CD!

Overall: This CD is ONLY for Yu-Gi-Oh! fans! If you don't like Yu-Gi-Oh!, you should stay far away from this CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars this cd is awesome!deserves 18653176 stars not 5, June 3, 2003
This review is from: Yu-Gi-Oh: Music to Duel By (Audio CD)
This cd is the best cd that i have ever bought containing the best songs that i have ever heard. It is definatly worth the money even if you are not a Yu-Gi-Oh fan. I give my specific opinions on each song while rating each as well.

1. YUGIOH! THEME This song is a longer version and combination of the theme song in the show. The entire thing is great. My fav part is that fast low sounding "rolls" and the eyptian god card part 10/10

2. TIME 2 DUEL I like this song but its not one of my favorites. I give it an 8/10

3. I'M BACK This song is about Seto Kaiba trying to get Mokuba back from Pegasus. Its really cute(in a way) and I really like how they added the dialogue in it. Also i gotta love it because its about seto<3 and the instumental part after Mokuba says "big brother youre here! your here!" is great 10/10

4. SUMMON THE DRAGON If The Neverending Story and Labyrinth were ever to combine, this would be the theme song. My favorite instumental song of the CD. 10/10

5. YOUR MOVE The beat and sound of the song is cool and lyrics are neat. This song is about Yugi and Yami Yugi. The best part is the "egyptian secrets are revived..." part. 10/10

6. DUEL MADNESS This is my favorite song. Of course its about Seto Kaiba who says "virtual systems ready" in the begining and i love that "Seto Kaiba background tech music " 2834246219764/10

7. NO MATTER WHAT this is the song from the show that they play right before joey and yugi duel. Its a really cute song and i dont know anyone who has heard it and not liked it. 10/10

8. EXODIA This peice is pretty good. The instrumentals are neat and it has that cool ritual summoning music. 9/10

9 AHEAD OF THE GAME Another Seto Kaiba song and a really good one too. The lead singer is good and the beat and tune are good. My favorite part is the "all of my technology, all my smarts, my creativity, will rip you apart" 12/10

10. WE'LL BE THERE Its seems like no likes this song except me. I think its sweet and cd has got to have at least one slow song. This song is sung my Tea and Tristen in the show with some dialogue between Tea and Joey. Its really cute and Tea has a really strong voice 10/10

11. FACE UP FACE DOWN much as i dislike Pegasus, he has a great singing voice and the song is great. It captures his very personality and evil esscense as well as that evil chuckle of his. The music is just great in this song. 11/10

12. MILLENIUM BATTLE This instrumental is great. not quite as good as summon the dragon but i still give it a 10/10. it still follows that labyrinth/neverending story theme 10/10

13. HEART OF THE CARDS I really like this song. The guy who animates the voice of Seto Kaiba sings in this (though not as Seto, but when he says "Time to Duel" its in Seto's voice which i love!!) Backgroung music great 13/10

14. WORLD OF YUGIOH! This song is alright. Probably my least favorite on the cd but still good. 8/10

The only things this cd is missing is the song from the show "Im not gonna Panic" and the 'bandit keith' background music. Other than that this cd is the best ever! My ultimate favorite!!
