5.0 out of 5 stars Capsule Monster Chess, July 29, 2004
By
This review is from: Yu-Gi-Oh!, Vol. 3: Capsule Monster Chess (Paperback)
This is the third book in the Yu-Gi-Oh series.

This volume starts off with the second half of the Yugi Vs. Shadi saga, in which Yugi faces Shadi's tests to save the lives of his friends.

When that wraps up, there are some short stories in which Yugi takes care up a digital pet thing and his classmate becomes the American hero Zombire. The final chapter introduces Mokuba, Kaiba's little brother and the Capsule Monster Chess champion. Mokuba challanges Yugi to a game to get revenge for defeating his brother at Magic and Wizards( see volume 2).

This book is rated T for teen for some language and violence.

5.0 out of 5 stars Here comes three...!, January 18, 2004
This review is from: Yu-Gi-Oh!, Vol. 3: Capsule Monster Chess (Paperback)
WOO-HOO! Er, let's get onto that review, shall we?

Another great addition to your manga collection, this volume contains the following duels (once again, if you've been following the Shonen Jump mags...):

16: Shadi's Challenge - Continuing from volume 2, Shadi has come seeking those who defiled the pharaoh's tomb and upon finding the completed Millennium Puzzle, he demands to test Yugi's other self.
17: Game Start - ...
18: Second Stage - ...
19: Final Stage - ...
20: Game Over - ...

21: Digital Pet Duel - Little virtual pets are the fad now...
22: American Hero (Part 1) - A popular American comic book character is introduced to the guys...
23: American Hero (Part 2) - ...
24: Capsule Monster Chess - Mokuba seeks revenge for his older brother's loss...

~~~
Besides the conclusion to Shadi's challenge from volume 2, I wasn't really looking forward to this one (of course, I'm also not following the magazine that well so I didn't know what to expect). After reading it, though, there are several moments in this that I'll never forget, like the zombie professor's chase, Honda's reaction right before Jonouchi and Yugi's exchange in "Digital Pet", and when Yami Yugi shoots down Mokuba's goons in "Capsule" (haha!): those may just be my faves, but I'm sure I'm forgetting something. But aren't Mokuba's goons a little young to have those things?!? (I won't say what I'm talking about; you'll know when you read it.) Haha, still great. I may have skimmed over duels 17 to 20, but they're definitely worth reading; I just didn't want to spoil anything about it.
The art is getting better, and there is meaning to each individual duel (a little obvious, perhaps, but nice stories in themselves) which makes it different from other comics/graphic novels in which the meaning can only be seen after finishing the entire thing. Always worth it, Yu-Gi-Oh! 3 is a great collection and a must-buy (as they all are!).
5.0 out of 5 stars A Duel for the King of Games!, January 12, 2004
This review is from: Yu-Gi-Oh!, Vol. 3: Capsule Monster Chess (Paperback)
Shaadi, posessor of the Millenium Key and Scales challenges Yugi's Other Self to test the strength of each other's hearts. If Yami fails, his friends, and Yugi will die! Later, Yugi meets a young elementry student named Mokuba Kaiba, the champion of a game called Capsule Monster Chess, kind of a combination of Pokemon and chess. Mokuba is the little brother of Seto Kaiba, who Yugi defeated in the last volume, and now Mokuba's out for revenge! The loser plays a penalty game! Can Yugi win with a rigged game?
