This review is from: Yu-Gi-Oh! World Championship Tournament 2008 (Video Game)
I went from borrowing my son's 2007 version of this game to buying my own 2008. The game is very fun, involving various opponents and sets of cards, and retains playability for weeks via unlocking new opponents and downloadable content.
As far as differences on the new 2008 versus the old 2007, of course there are new cards. Also the 2007 format of having puzzle duals available are gone, instead there is a more interactive "Dual World" where you choose different roaming opponents on a map. As you defeat more opponents (usually 5 times per opponent) you unlock new maps/zones. CPU battles are still around, and exist separate from Dual World, though playing through Dual World will add new opponents to CPU battles. You can still use the DS wifi connection to connect online and download a different cards, new opponents (like Jaden), and puzzles. But as far as the puzzles once you download them I honestly can't find the option to play them on any meny anywhere. Yu-gi-oh really reminds me of playing Magic: The Gathering back in the 1990's, just with bigger numbers and different card combinations. The stratedy and mechanics are still there and it seems more "meaty" than trying to play a game like Pokemon.

This is, at its core, a simulator for the Yu-Gi-Oh! collectible trading card game. That said, someone who does not actively play that card game, be they a fan of the TV series or not, may have a difficult time with this. Even seasoned players may run into card combos they have never encountered before. Controls are smooth with very little you can do wrong and virtually every card up to and including the final seasons of the GX series of the show are included (like the Egyptian God Cards, Sacred Beast Cards and Wicked God Cards) (including some that were never released in the United States, such as Meteor Black Dragon). An awesome game for fans of the show, but could also appeal to those who just like a good strategy game.

I got this in the mail several days ago and a Yu-Gi-Oh DS game is pretty cool. There are "holograms" that appear during the duel. Very great for any true fan of Yu-Gi-Oh!!

This game is a lot of fun and there are massive cards to choose from. The only dislike would represent a story mode is needed instead of beat these opponents five times to advance. I've already played the game for 25 hours and it's only about half finished.

The amount of possible strategies with this games is awesome, My gruop of friends and me bought this game and every time we have a battle, is amazing the huge diferences in the strategical aproachs that each one of us develops.
The single player goes a bit slow at first, but its good to get the hang of the game, but slowly the action grows and in few time you have many options to choose from. Now has been a year since I bought this game and I still play it.

This is a great game, particularly if you have someone to play with. There are structured duels to have when you're opponent has a much larger collection than you do, and there's a huge library of cards. The Duel World is neat, definately better than the last yu-gioh game i had, Worldwide Edition, and there is a kind of adventure mode. There are also CPU duels. For any hardcore fan, it's a must buy. for anyone who likes the game, but doesn't want to fork over the money to buy a real deck and not have anyone to play with, it's also a great buy. Build and use the deck of your dreams and use it in a way that's both more convenient, and less expensive, than real life.
