4.0 out of 5 stars Only three episodes, again., October 16, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Yu Yu Hakusho Ghostfiles - The Beasts of Maze Castle (DVD)
This is the 5th YuYu Hakusho DVD. Only three episodes, just like #4 and #6, which is a little disappointing. The episodes on this DVD are all in the Saint Beasts / Makai Insects sequence. The basic structure of the Saint Beasts arc is that there are four guys on the Spirit Detective team, and four Saint Beasts, so it makes perfect sense for each team member to take one Beast. Most of the time in these episodes is devoted to Kuwabara's fight.

These are pretty good, but not the best that the series has to offer. Of course, everybody who buys this DVD is working their way through the whole series, so that's not a consideration. I do wish that they'd go back to four episodes a disc - one lousy hour of TV for [the price] is a little hard to stomach.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic, as always, October 12, 2002
Yu Yu Hakusho rocks! This one has to be my favorite video so far, containing (I believe) both Kuwabara's fight with Byakko and Hiei's with Seiryu. There are surprises right and left, the action is top quality, and the characters are fun to watch. The comedy and the drama balance each other out nicely, keeping it a serious story without making it heavy-handed. Just go ahead and buy it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty Darn Good, April 23, 2005
Yu Yu Hakusho: Spirit Detective: Vol. 5: The Beasts of Maze Castle contains three action-packed episodes that make it worth four. Not to mention the extras on this DVD, like most Y.Y.H., are surprisingly comprehensive for what seems initially like a Dragonball Z type anime aimed at young teen boys. The extras are worth talking about before we discuss the episodes!

There is a name guide, a kanji translator, and a diary with more cultural notes. Honestly, I am in awe and grateful for these extras that shed such light on an outsider's view of Japanese culture. In no other anime series have I seen such extras that help Westerners who are interested in learning the cultural background of a series.

Episode 16: Byakko, the White Tiger - Yuremeshi, Kuwabara, Kurama, and Hie tackle the second of the four Saint Beasts they need to defeat. Since Kurama is badly wounded from his fight with the first Saint Beast, the brash Kuwabara insists on taking on the big cat all by himself. But will his Reiki Sword be enough to defeat his opponent?

Episode 17: Byakko's Lair - He's back for Round 2 - Byakko and an exhausted Kurama have a final showdown on the cat's turf.

Episode 18: Seiryu, the Blue Dragon - The third Saint Beast is capable of a surprising twist of cruelty, summoning the enigmatic Hie to take him on.

5.0 out of 5 stars Getting better each time. Great Anime, October 24, 2002
So what are you expecting that Yu Yu Hakusho will suck. Fat chance for that. This series just gets better and better. Kuwabara is just great in his fight with Byakko. Kuwabara is so brave in this and stubboren as you will see. He will not late the others help him. Well Hiei go's against Seiryu the blue dragon, well you can't wait to see why he decides to fight Seiryu.

If you are a Anime fan of all kinds. Specially a anime lover that looks for the imagination of the story you will love this series for real. It's so well planned out with great laughs along the way as well some tears and some heart warming scenes that will take your breath away.

Well I have to tell you, this anime is for everyone. Girls will like it cause the belief in friendship and trust in your own hearts and beliefs. I'm a girl well I like everything about this Anime and not yet found anything wrong with it.
I'm a Yu Yu Hakusho fan and always will be.

Kurama is a spirit fox that had to adabt in the human world and now fights along side Yusuke. For he can see that yusuke is a friend and cares about the people he is surrounded by.

Hiei is a whole nother story. He is a demon that has amazing skills that I have seen and they just get better. Trust me. He has one attuide problem, but he seems to become a friend to Yusuke, Kurama, and Kuwabara. Even though he tries to deny them but in the end he is a friend, some times,

Kuwabara is Yusuke's reviel at school. He can see things that the others can not see. He is way weird, but he makes me laugh and I love it when Hiei and Kuwabara start to argue cause it's the way they talk when the threaten each other. It's very hilarious. Well I got to go. See next time Yu Yu Hakuho fans.

WATCH THIS PLEASE I PROMISE YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED.
PROMISE.
16).Byakko, The white Tiger
17).Byakko's Lair
18).Seiryu, The blue Dragon

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than DragonBall Z!!!..., August 25, 2002
Late me tell you yu yu hakusho is the best anime I have ever seen and trust me I have seen alot. This is for everyone. It has action that is planned out if you patient to it. It has romance for the girls and scenes that will move you. And it is all out hilarious even in the middle of the battles. This is for guys and girls. And I also just want to say how do people think that YU YU HAKUSHO even comes close to being like dragonball z. Like WHATEVER..... But yu yu hakusho is way way better it is well planned out unlike dragonball z. Cause dragonball z drags on & on & on & on & on & on & on, well you know what I mean. And dragonball z is not that well planned out sorry. I like Dragonball z and all, but when you see this you will never turn away from it, it is the best. Trust me I was a huge Dragonball Z fan, but now it's YU YU HAKUSHO ALL THE WAY. One more thing there are 112 eps in all of yu yu hakusho, but all of them have not came out yet but well within the next 2 years. That bits doesn't it. Anyways you can see them all if you go to ebay, but only for DVD's sorry and they're in English subtitles sorry. The english version is Great the voices are great and you got to love their eyes. Kurama is for the girls. He is way out fox smart and cute. Hiei is not a Vegeta wannabe, cause vegeta would never help them out or be a friend to his alies. But I think Hiei is cute as well in his own short way. Well that's it for now. THIS IS SOMETHING YOU SHOULD COLLECT VHS OR DVDS. Cause I know this going to become as bigger than Dragonball z. I hope you like it.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Punker vs. the Saints, June 19, 2003
By
Bradford Yurkiw (Spokane, WA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Yu Yu Hakusho Ghostfiles - The Beasts of Maze Castle (DVD)
For those who know the series up til thus far, I'll cut to the chase in traditional Yusuke fashion.
After infiltrating Maze Castle, Urameshi and company come face to face with the castle's inhabitants: Zombies and four Saint Beasts from the same chinese mythologies that spawned Fushigi Yugi for those who watch/read it. In the last volume, Kurama showed his ruthlessness by killing the stone turtle, Genbu. This volume takes our heroes to the inner parts of the castle. There they find the white tiger Byakku, who fights our favorite brick, Kasuma Kuwabara. Kuwabara whips out his spirit sword and let's just say no one gets to beat Kuwabara senseless but Yusuke. Hiei then has to battle Seiryu, the cold dragon. from there they have to face the only Saint Beast left, Suzaku the phoenix.
The action is happening walst(and at the same time as) Keiko and Botan in the human world are being hunted by the bug zombies.
Like every episode of Yu Yu Hakusho, it's all good. The stark opposite of Dragon Ball's style, Hakusho cuts out useless dialogue to get it on immediatly. What continues to attract viewers to the show is that rather than the supernatural powers be the great equalizer, Yusuke in particualr relies on a moron thing called THINKING.
On the technical side, this FUNimation DVD contains both the English language and original Japanese products. The DVD contains two subtitle tracks, one word for word English ADR Dub and one track of the literal Japanese translation of the dialogue. The latter track is invaluable to keep happy those fans who are opposed to dubbing and those who want to know what the original dialogue was because they don't speak Japanese.
This is a must for any Hakusho fan because Yusuke is still the only anime character who could, in that unlikely event, quote his american counterpart in context with, "We came, we saw, we kicked its a**!"
