This book is an excellent resource book for someone who is trying to learn how to reproduce the Croatian Embroidery Patterns. There are 2 versions of this book English and Croatian.

Please see the Images I uploaded above for how brilliant, vibrant and detailed the photos in the book are. You can see the stitches well and even the threads on the linen. The color palette is glorious and I was surprised to see the number of stitches employed. I got a laugh when I read that stitches on counted thread fabric are made with a "pointless" (tapestry) needle because there's nothing pointless about these embroideries! I have not shown the thread diagrams because while they're helpful to the experienced stitcher, they won't be to the new one. Even though the front and back of the fabric are displayed, if you don't know how to make that first stitch, you're lost. All of the stitches like buttonhole, chain, raised lattice stitch can be learned through a standard stitch dictionary. I'd guess about 2/3 of the photos are in color and every single one of the almost 200 photos is detailed. For example, Image 1 above is "Chain stitch, pointde traits--colored silk. Part of ornament on woman's apron."

I am really interested in folk embroidery including in the following books:

Charted Folk Designs for Cross-Stitch Embroidery: 278 Charts of Ancient Folk Embroideries from the Countries Along the Danube (Dover Needlework)
101 Folk Designs for Counted Cross-Stitch and Other Needlecrafts (Dover Needlework)
