Durability in question,

Immediately after getting this set, I tried using the 1/4" straight bit on a piece of particle board. While cutting a 3/8" deep groove, the bit quickly broke. What was the reason? (1)Is particle board too tough for this bit? (2)Are 1/4" shanks in general, too light-duty for this application? (3 Are these router bits made of Pot-metal? Maybe I got what I paid for:(

Outrageous!,

I have router bits for repetitive and routine work, typically costing $50 to $100 each. Yukon Tools will not replace them. For half the price of a cheaper bit, this kit includes nearly every small bit you may need for that unusual or small job. They are true, cut well for a while, and have not broken on me during occasional use. At a dollar each, these router bits fill every possible expectation and then some. If you want to run molding for your whole house, expect durability for 50 mortises, or build a dozen kitchen cabinets, buy the right tool, but these might be the best bang for the buck in the tool market today. In my opinion, Yukon Tools supplies an outrageously excellent deal.

Some of the bits appear to be ok. Un fortunately when I first opened the wood case one of the wood mounts had broken free and a bunch of bits were rattling around in the box. That is bad for the sharp edges. The 1/4" bit broke after about an hours use. Not to good. Spend a little more and get a good set if you plan on using it much.

I read the other review and had to say that my set has preformed flawless. Ran 200 Board feet of oak trim. No problem never burned once. Box was damaged in shipping and the company sent out a new one in 2days!

Another reviewer sharply noted that this set is a fantastic purchase, but only if you understand what you're buying. I tend to overbuy my tools, so buying some crappy bits made me hesitant. Truthfully, no, these aren't the kinds of bits you'll want to start a cabinet shop with. They are probably better than you'd expect and for the price, it's so much better to at least *have* the bit on hand rather than just try to "get by" with the wrong bit.
I will say, however, buy a "good" flush trim bit. It's by far the most used bit in my arsenal and I won't trust a Yukon tool here.

I purchased this before a decking project as I intended to put some unusual corners and edges throughout the project to break up the line and give some visual appeal. While I've used 5 different bits, by far and away the most used was the 45 degree bevel. This bit has done over 1200 feet of 1/2" edge bevels in wet pressure treated 2x6's and is still going. The bearing is getting rough at this point, and the blade edge is getting dull, but it probably has another 300 to 400 feet in it. A quarter mile of work before failure makes this set worth the price in that one bit.

This is the type of product I love to review...a supper cost-effective product. I'm an experienced craftsman, but not a finish woodworker, so when I needed to significantly modify my favorite Oak TV cabinet in our living room to make it fit a new wide-screen TV, I had to temporarily enter into the world of routers and router bits. I had several jobs to do: round a four-foot portion of the cabinet edge with a 3/8" roundover bit, flush trim some cuts with a flushtrim bit, mortis out an exposed plywood edge with a mortising bit, cut out holes for cooling fans using a cooling-fan template and a flushtrim bit, cut off the edge of a cabinet door and reshape it with an ogee bit combined with two other bits, and chamfer the edge of a new cabinet partition. I ended up buying a Porter-Cable 7310 trim router Porter-Cable 7310 5.6 Amp 3/4-Horsepower Laminate Trim Router(see separate review) and this set of router bits.
To buy separate top-of-the-line bits could have cost hundreds of dollars...instead I got 24 bits for $[...]...less than 2 bucks a piece...and they worked great! Since I didn't know anything about routing when I started, having a complete set of bits was a great way to understand the large number of tasks that can be accomplished with a router and the types of bits designed for each. I used about eight bits in total. I don't know what separates a good bit from a bad one, probably material quality, perhaps bearings and balance. Here's my experience: O All the bits seemed perfectly balanced...thus the router (a small trim router) ran smooth and was easy to handle. O All the bits seemed very sharp and all have carbide cutting edges that did a great job. O I inadvertently cut through a couple of nails that were hidden below the cabinet surface...no bad effects...the bit just ate the nails with no signs of chipping or dulling of the cutting edge O The one minor problem I had is that the bearing on my flush cut bit came off (unscrewed) while starting a cut after a couple of days of use...took two days to find the parts on the shop floor. However, I quickly substituted the same size bearing off of another bit in the set. Lesson learned: check the tightness of the bearing screw before using the bearing bits...also nice to have those back-up bits. Bottom Line...the set was superb for the one-time job that I had...and will probably serve me well into the future. And, it comes in a very nice wood chest. Highly recommended!

Good set for the "handyman"!,

I bought my set of router bits about a year and a half ago. I find them to be very good for my purposes (I have a home shop and I'm not a pro by any stretch of the imagination). I deffinetly would buy a second set when this one wears out (a few years from now). If you use your router all the time (like a pro) then I would think about a more expensive set.

I choose this set over the hickoy set at home depot becase the price was less and it has better bits with more bearing options.
I made trim, and a counter top. I will use them for making a sign next. I loaned them to my friend and he bought his own set.

For the price you get a good assortment of bits. The quality is standard for this price range. A good buy all in all.
