I just read some alarming news about Yummi Bears that I thought I would share with all you concererned parents (I believe it came from consumerlab.com) featured in a MSNBC news report.

The analysis also showed that Hero Nutritionals Yummi Bears, a multivitamin for children, had 216 percent of the labeled amount of vitamin A in the retinol form, delivering 5,400 International Units (IU) in a daily serving. That's substantially more than the upper tolerable level set by the Institute of Medicine of 2,000 IU for kids ages 1 to 3 and 3,000 IU for those 4 to 8.

Because too much vitamin A can cause bone weakening and liver abnormalities, the Yummi Bears "could be potentially doing more harm than good," Cooperman said. "Vitamin A is one of those vitamins where you really don't want to get too much."

Needless to say I won't be buying Yummi Bears anymore and plan to switch to the brand Nordic Naturals, they make gummies called Nordic Berries which I've purchased in the past and I also buy their Omega 3 gummies as well.

REVIEW FOR ORIGINAL FLAVOR YUMMI BEARS

Not all gummi bear vitamins are created equal. Some require two bears per dose, some require four bears. This one found a happy medium at three bears. My kids are happy they get one more bear than they did with our last gummi vitamin.

Some gummi vitamins only contain vitamins. This one contains vitamins and minerals. That extra bear lets them squeeze in more ingredients and make it a more complete supplement.

Some gummi vitamins taste horrible. This one is not too sweet, a tiny bit sour, and a little fruity. My children love the flavor. I don't think it's too bad myself.

PROS:
+ a more complete supplement than other brands
+ good flavor, children like it

CONS:
- three bears per dose
- children like it, so be careful to store it safely or they may eat it all in one sitting

SUMMARY

Since I use supplements as sort of a safety net for my picky eater, the more complete the supplement, the better. The fact the kids like it is a plus. I would buy this again.

These are the best. We are gluten-free, casein-free and soy-free, and these are perfect. Each kid gets 3 per day -- sometimes I give one at breakfast, one at lunch, and one at dinner, but sometimes I just give 3 at breakfast if I know I might forget later. The kids love them, so it's not hard to give them their vitamins! Highly recommended.

I started buying these vitamins for my daughter in the winter and she really likes them. Recently I placed an order, and due to heat, they arrived melted into one large blob. I was about to return them, then I noticed Amazon writes about the melting problem in the description (though they claim it's "rare") and will not accept returns on the vitamins.

I got the vitamins right from the hands of the UPS driver, so they weren't melting in the sun on our porch - they were just baking in the brown truck all day.

I wouldn't recommend buying them in the summer time or if you live somewhere hot. Stock up in the winter.

We love these vitamins and they leave no aftertaste...it's like your eating a gummy bear! Plus I don't have to worry about unhealthy byproducts in them.

These gummies tasted awesome. One of the only downsides is that it has a lot of sugar. The other downside? It's gelatin is made form pork. If your fine with that, then go ahead they are awesome.

These seem great and my two year old loved them, but then I read a study about vitamins. It listed each vitamin that was tested (adults and children) and what the results were. Yummy Bears scored off the charts in some of the vitamin content, higher than they are supposed to contain. The study found that vitamin A in large doses is dangerous and this was one of them that was over. The study said if you gave these each day like most people do, you could cause serious problems. Flinstones were not my first choice, but at least they had in them what they said they did. I made the switch.

I purchased Yummi Bears Multi-Vitamin & Mineral for my three year old daughter and I discovered that the vitamins were covered in black spots. As I have used Yummi Bears in the past without problem, I returned to the store to see if the problem was isolated or if it applied to the lot. All of the vitamins in lot HN11881A at the Vitamin Shoppe in Falls Church, VA also contained the spots.

I have since been in contact with Hero Nutritional Products LLC; they are having the product tested at that lab. Their original speculation was that the spots were caused by fruit; I have purchased multiple bottles of these vitamins in past and this is the first time I have encountered the "fruit" spots. As a precaution, I contacted the FDA and they are researching the matter. I do not recommend these vitamins.
