Book Description

July 13, 2010
With the explosion of the amigurumi craft trend, Yummy ‘Gurumi brings 20 offbeat, unexpected, and charming crochet projects to crafters.

Yummi 'Gurumi: Over 60 Gourmet Crochet Treats to Make from Christen Haden and Mariarosa Sala is a "cookbook" for the hottest trend in the yarn craft world: crocheting tasty treats that look good enough to eat!

Yummi 'Gurumi features 20 "recipes" to guide crafters--from the hairnet set to the hipster jet set--through this evolutionary next step in the craft craze known worldwide as amigurumi--the Japanese word for knitting and crocheting cute, little animals and objects.

With techniques easy enough for novices yet adaptable to keep expert crocheters interested, each of the delectable dishes in Yummi 'Gurumi takes less than an hour or two to create. Each design is explained with stitch guides, clear patterns, and easy-to-follow instructions.

And perhaps the best part of Yummi 'Gurumi--no calories!

2.0 out of 5 stars Pattern mistakes April 11, 2011
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I think all the patterns in this book are very cute and creative, but I had so much trouble making the nigiri rice base for the sushi on the cover. I ended up having to undo my work over and over again, even after following the pattern exactly. I finally used my own experience and adjusted the pattern to work. For that reason, I give it only two stars.

3.0 out of 5 stars Grinning & Groaning With 'Gurumi April 20, 2011
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
While I LOVE the creativity that oozes from this fun little pattern book, I have to say I am a little dismayed at the patterns themselves. First of all, they are oversimplified. I am the type of person that really needs picture diagrams, especially when it comes to piecing & joining things together--this book has none of that. It merely tells you how in convoluted directions that make you go "huh?" So you are left trying to figure it out by trial and error--this is especially true for more of the complex items like the dip, the cheese, and some of the sushi that require multiple pieces for the finished product. Secondly, the actual crochet methods seem harder than they need to be. For instance, this annoying "magic ring" they want you to use is way harder than just joining a chain and the results are exactly the same. I also found the terminology sequence to be confusing while working in the round. Luckily I have been crocheting for a while so I can adjust and change the patterns to better suit my preferences but to the novice or unconfident person, this book would be challenging.
Despite its shortcomings, this book has some beautiful photos of the finished products that are inspiring and just plain fun. So 'Gurumi at your own risk and see if you can't come up with your own versions of the wayward patterns.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Cute Designs December 14, 2011
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I enjoyed this book and it has many very cute designs.

I purchased this along with Tasty Crochet, and prefer the other book for its more realistic looking crochet designs.

I ordered this book because I think making a display of crochet food is fun. Also my grandaughter hopes to be a chef so I will be making her some of the pastries for a fun gift.

There are mistakes in many of the patterns so this is NOT for the novice. It helped that I had just made many animals from a different book so I could recognize a mistake when I... Read more

A whole book of new crochet ideas. I especially like that they are small and quick so I don't get bored with it and end up with a bunch of half-completed projects hanging around. Read more

3.0 out of 5 stars Do children really know what Sushi is?
The directions are incorrect in that when the book says DC, they actually mean SC. A TC is actually a DC and so on. Very frustrating when you need to rewrite the book. Read more
