Product Description

The Yummi Pouch is a convenient, refillable and reusable pouch to hold snacks for your child! It has a resealable top filling area where you can pour your favorite blended foods or drinks. The contents are enjoyed by removing the large cap and drinking from the spout. Yummi Pouch is great for feeding your own infant easily, or for toddlers and older kids to feed themselves! To fill, ensure the pouch is completely expanded by closing the zipper and blowing into the mouth piece. This is the best way to make sure your Yummi Pouch is open to the full capacity of 6 ounces.

I did quite some research into reusable pouches (what a great idea!) on the market before deciding to go with Yummi Pouch. I would like to share my decision process and feedbacks after using. Hopefully, this is a comprehensive summary of all the product reviews (text+video) I read.

There are about a dozen brands and basically two main designs: spout on the side with zipper on the top like Yummi, Little Green, Precious Tummies and GoFreshBaby or spout on the top with zipper at the bottom like ReSqueeze, Squooshi, U-Fill and Nourish with Style. There are other kinds that are more expensive and different like Beaba Babypote, which I am not going to cover.

Initially, I was more inclined to the spout-on-top design as it is more close to the store bought ones. The spot design seems more natural. Cleaning also seems to be easier as water can rinse right through. However, depending on my specific use case where I make smoothies at night and need to store them in the fridge overnight and pack in lunch bag, the feature of being able to stand upright and not worrying about leaking at all (there are reviews about the zipper-on-bottom design leaks after some time eventually) wins me over. However, if you only make smoothies for use right away, it does not matter. I have seen reviews saying no leaks usually in a few hours, so you can just throw into the diaper bag for an outing.

There are a few product feature highlights that I think is worth looking into and decide what matters to you the most.
1. Double zipper - a must for no leaks. They pretty much all have it now except for U-Fill.
2. Wide opening - very important to me for easy fill. The widest are Yummi Pouch and ReSqueeze. The narrowest are Precious Tummies and GoFreshBaby based on how they look.

My little guy was having trouble gaining weight and is a horribly picky eater. At 12 months old, he was only 16 lbs. One thing I could garuntee he would eat was the commercial squeeze pouch baby food, but those mostly have less than 100 calories per pouch and are so pricey. With these, I can fill them with baby cereal made with coconut milk and mix in fruit and veggies and pack over 200 calories per pouch and he can eat as many of them as he wants. We have only had them a little over a week and he has already put on almost a pound. The nice thing is, I can easily adjust the calories and nutrients to keep using them for a long time to come. They are easy to fill if you stick them in a cup to hold them upright and squeeze them open. Pay attention to the fill line, because they are easy to overfill.

These are great. They are easy to fill (stick to the fill line or when you zip it shut it will over flow) easy to clean, and they are great quality. The plastic is thick and seems like it will hold up. I fill ours with apple sauce for my 20 month old and he just sucks it out like he does with the store bought ones. These will save us money and are less waste since you can re use them! Also the caps are the same size as the ones we buy from the store (just in case we throw a cap out by accident, you know where you can get more!) the only thing i wish is that the opening was on the side and the spout where you eat from was on the top like the ones at the store. So far my son hasn't been bothered by this at all though

EDITED: 6/12/13

So I've been using these for a while now (a few months maybe, I honestly forget when my above review was written) and I am soo bummed but they leak! Let me be clear, I do NOT over fill and they are used maybe 3 times a week so its not like they are being abused. They still look brand new. What happens is, when you put applesauce in the packet (my son is 2 so that's mostly what goes in.... you may not have this problem with yogurt but I cant say one way or another) the sticky/watery/apple sauce water stuff leaks out past the ziplock part. I think the reason this happens is because the location of the mouth piece is SO close to the ziplock thing. So when I am helping my son get the last bites, (cuz this is a thick plastic packet so you have to give it a good squeeze to get it all) you are essentially squeezing and putting pressure on the zipper thing. IF the zipper was where I think it should be instead, which is on the bottom, then you would be squeezing foods away from the zipper at the end of a feeding and maybe wouldn't have this problem.

I bought these thinking I'd have to wash them by hand based on other reviews. When they are brand new, I can definitely see them being difficult to stay open in a dishwasher. So I washed them by hand for the first several uses. After they had seen those first several uses, they relaxed into the open position much more easily. I just put them in the top rack and use a couple wide set prongs to prop them open. Occasionally, there is a little bit left for me to clean out by hand, but I found it hard to get them as clean by hand as the machine gets them. There is a little lip of plastic on the inside, right under the zip closure, that sometimes collects debris. I actually use my nail to scrape it out while running it under water. That might sound annoying to have to do, but I doesn't cause me to give this product any less than 5 stars. I was tempted to get those cute animal ones, but I'm so glad I got these because they hold so much. The design of having the spout along the side has even made it so I could tuck the sides of the pouch under his stroller straps and he could suck the food out hands free. I got two orders of these so I can always have my freezer stocked with baby food. I use them at home all the time as well, ad it's easier to just hold the pouch for him (while I'm eating), than serve him with a spoon. I recommend these for everyone with young kids, both for baby food and as snack pouches for toddlers. These are the perfect baby shower gift too.
