At last the other side of Cuban music,
By A Customer
This review is from: Yusa (Audio CD)

A New Style For Cuba,
By
This review is from: Yusa (Audio CD)
Yusa is one of those rare creatures who breaks the mold and fashions a new style and sound. No Son or Buena Vista, but a departure from Cuba music to a world sound with this album. It is softly spicy with overtones of Brazil, with Marley honesty, and a Tracy Chapman unique voice, but it is all Yusa. A masterful musician: composer, lyricist, arranger, mixer, and skiled pianist, guitarist, bassist, percussionist, and a master's degree in the Tres, a six-stringed Cuban original instrument on which she plays classical music, she is, one hopes, a leader for new Cuban music. Although she can scat, chanteuse, and rip the top off the song, it is always done with
impecable skill and honesty. Nothing pretentious here. If you want to hear something original and a portend of the future, grab this album. Not Too Late

i am [mad],
By Leonard Bakalchuk (Brooklyn, NY USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Yusa (Audio CD)
i am amazed with this cd. i searched for information about her and i found out that Yusa despite her young age is already such a great musician. she is a good composer and music arranger. She also plays bass, guitar, piano and "tres" and sings as well. Thats more than one can ask for.Her voice and work remindes me of other artist like NOrah Jones, Jewel, Suzanne Vega and even Sade. I know that her music, a mix of Cuban rythms and a hint of latin jazz, has nothing to do with the style of these other artists; but a think they all have the same spiritual feeling of healing. Its fun without be noisy, its mellow without sadness. She is enlightened and makes feel close to the roots of something new. I recomend this cd and I cant wait to hear the next one. I am [made] because there is no way to see her performaing in NYC and i am not allowed to go to Habana to lhear her lin a live concert.

By A Customer
This review is from: Yusa (Audio CD)
Yusa has complied a good combination the rhythmic tempos together which her soulful sexy voice, bringing to me a sense of hope and life. The instrumental work is excellent, which gets one up to your feet and dancing in celebration. Celebration, the right word to represent Yusa's work, a celebration of life.

New Cuban fusion,

A slick, sweeping Cuban jazz-ballads crossover, which reminds me a bit of Brazilian artists such as Joyce or Djavan, or North Americans like Jane Bunnett and Diana Krall. Not my cup of tea, really, but fans of the style might enjoy this quite a bit.

Horrible !,
By quique (Miami, Fl) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Yusa (Audio CD)
Not sure what the other reviewers are refering to...maybe they heard a different album than i did. Yusa may have great lyrics, but her voice and the music don't match. The best way to describe this album = like having Rush Limbaugh in one radio, while another is playing Mambo !...This was a HORRIBLE acquisition to my CD collection. I recommend that those interested listen to the clips and decide whether this is the sort of music they enjoy; if that's the case...more power to them...I, instead, elected to use the CD as a drink coaster.
