5.0 out of 5 stars the CAT is BACK!!!!, October 23, 2007
This review is from: Yusuf's Cafe Session (DVD)
This is just about perfect....a wonderful concert filmed with taste and style..performed by the great Cat Stevens (Yusuf Islam) with panache and exquisite musicianship...just lovely. Their is also a BONUS 1hr BBC documentary on this amazing singer/songwriter.
AND..if that isn't enough for your $15...another section of the DVD has a 15 minute making of for his latest album and its really terrific. It also has a couple of beautifully filmed videos for his new songs and Cat/Yusuf sits on a couch with a nylon string guitar and plays solo versions of Peace Train and Midday....and Where do the Children Play?...wow what an embarrasment of riches..allmost 3 hours of glorious music!!! This is a perfect companion to the existing film from 1976 Majikat...just 30 years later!!! I can't stress enough the quality of the production...its just filmed stunningly beautifully...first class in every way and on top of it...Cat/Yusuf emerges as one of the kindest souls to walk the planet and most talented as well...

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice to have him back again..., July 10, 2007
I purchased this DVD from Amazon out of London about a month ago. The concert portion is excellent; the documentary (BBC) - is excellent and the sit down sessions with music is excellent.

It is so nice to have him back again. This is an excellent piece of art -for any Cat Stevens fan.

Highly recommended.

Beautiful new songs, great old footage and an interview along with his biography and life's work. The concert is extremely well played and there's bonus footage with yusuf on a couch playing a few old faves!
There are new music videos in here as well. This set was put together beautifully!

5.0 out of 5 stars Yusuf can fix the world, August 13, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Loaded with great interviews on his life and conversion. Also how he became a key Muslim figure and how he became more respected than most Imams. I believe his thorough knowledge of the teachings can end this worlds wars through his music. A very peacefull man. This new combination of Yusuf and Cat Stevens is very important to the world. Noone can argue with a good song. This DVD is full of them. Plus it doesn't ram religion down our throats. Everyone should believe in something and we should all love one another no matter what we all believe in.

5.0 out of 5 stars children and peace, January 9, 2008

This "session" is a full scale concert in London. The set was designed by Yusef and it is a lovely porch with palms and unique lighting. In Yusef we see Cat Stevens, but mellowed, aged like fine wine. From the first moment I was taken into his world, a world of caring concern for peace and children.
The music is even more touching than before. He is backed by excellent musicians who weave a tapestry for his song lines. He describes his life and his transformation in "A Few Good Songs"--a walk through his childhood streets.
You will play this DVD many times when you need peace and beauty.

5.0 out of 5 stars They Don't Make Em Like They Used To, July 27, 2007
It's a great DVD.... the performance is pretty good... the music is fantastic... The DVD extras are nice....

Great to See Yusuf/Cat back... his performance is great. His voice is just as great as it was during his prime... Alun Davis plays a pretty good guitar with Yusuf just like the good ol days...

Choice of songs for the set are pretty good... though I wished he had included 'Longer Boats', 'Moonshadow' , 'But I might Die Tonight'

5.0 out of 5 stars Welcome back Yusuf, October 12, 2007
Loved the whole DVD compilation - the concert and the behind the scenes look at Yusuf's life after giving up his Cat Stevens days. It is amazing to see how Yusuf or Cat's stongs can touch you again after all these years. Some of the best songs that Cat Stevens played are all in this DVD.

Welcome Back, Yusuf!

5.0 out of 5 stars Cat Stevens, Yusuf Islam, November 14, 2008
This review is from: Yusuf's Cafe Session (DVD)
As a folksinger in the late sixties and early seventies at houseparties and local clubs, I studied the styles of Dylan, Denver, Lightfoot, Paul Simon, Prine and others, but when I saw Cat Stevens live, I suddenly understood dynamics! Within a 3 minute song, he took me on a rollercoaster ride. What an amazing performer! More than 30 years later,
Yusuf still maintains that great voice, charisma and showmanship, still maintaining the ability to easily relate to his audience. His old songs stand the test of time. Do as I did and learn how to play the songs on Tea for the Tillerman, it will greatly improve your guitar skills or just listen to it for the sheer enjoyment, great songs.....

5.0 out of 5 stars Mesmerizing Music for the Soul, October 31, 2007
I always counted myself as one of the lucky few who got to see Cat Stevens live. It was a magical experience I will never forget, right down to his breaking a string during "Changes IV." It was a major musical loss for me when he left his career to explore his spritual self. His music had always had its spiritual side and had always been an inspiration. Still, I never fully understood that journey until this dvd was released. The BBC documentary spells it out so clearly that it makes you feel as if you went with him. Yusuf's version of "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood" on An Other Cup was haunting in its truthful plea. Now, we truly can finally understand him. And that's to say nothing of the music. He is as spectacular as ever, with a God-given voice and humility which surpasses any other artist. He performs his songs, both old and new, with the ease of an artist who has truly found himself. Truth be known, this actually brought tears to my eyes. I love this man; I love this music; I love this dvd. I am so grateful that he is able to share his gift with us again. Catch this while you can. It is absolutely amazing.
