My 3yo and 5yo love both bikes, so it depends on what your looking for.

We store them in the same place and they have about the same wear and tear (the Zum a bit more, but not enough to justify the bad shape it's in compared to the Skuut).

Our daughter was able to learn how to balance and ride very quickly which acceelerated her transition to peddling a bicycle without training wheels.

This is a nice looking bike - longer than expected when assembled; the overall length is 3 feet, with the center of the banana seat positioned 2/3rds of the way toward the rear, i.e., exactly 1 foot from the back of the rear tire and 2 feet from the front of the forward tire, giving it the look of a chopped motorcycle and the maneuverability as well. The steering 'arc' is broad, not allowing for tight turns. The reviewer who mentioned that the seat assembly is a nightmare is correct -- you need an extra set of hands, and strong hands at that; we dread the day when our 2.5yr old granddaughter requires the seat to be raised. There are no foot rests for coasting as I've noticed on other models; I don't know if the omission is a negative. Regarding another reviewers comment about tire marks on the floor, we have hardwood floors and I haven't noticed any marks. However, a new rider shouldn't be navigating around furniture anyway; this bike is clearly meant for an outside straightaway for the purpose of gaining confidence over speed and balance.

This was a Christmas gift so we plan to give the ZUM bike a trial run and return it to Costco if it poses an awkward challenge for our granddaughter. She's new at this, so maybe she'll do just fine.

My friend had a ZUM Balance Bike and I thought it was just a funny looking gimmick. It's a bike with no pedals that kids push with their feet. Then, one day, I saw her daughter ride the balance bike for one afternoon and then pick up her sister's two wheel bike and ride away. She needed no training wheels or instruction. She just rode away. At this point, I told my son to get on the awesome little ZUM Balance Bike.

Joe (age 4) and Brooke (age 2) rode this bike for about a month and thought it was a fun little Police bike. Last weekend Joe just jumped on a two wheel bike and rode away. His balance (and speed) were perfect. His start and stop were a little shaky, but after a couple tries (and one minor fall), Joe was a 2 wheel'n biker dude.

We bought a Zum and a Skuut at the same time for our two sons, over a year ago, just in case one was better quality than the other. We are so glad we did. The Zum has had the front bottom bolt/nut come off twice already (customer service sent us a replacement the first time, and we are currently waiting to see what they do this time), the red handles discolored in a few months, the seat cover completely wore off within months, the wood looks old, the nuts look rusty... The Skuut is in much better shape. We store them in the same place and they have about the same wear and tear (the Zum a bit more, but not enough to justify the bad shape it's in compared to the Skuut).

This bike has a very high seat - my 3.5yo son BARELY fits on it, and our 2yo (very tall) daughter has a lot of growing left before she will be able to ride it. For younger riders, we own and love the YBIKE Balance Bike. My 3yo and 5yo love both bikes, so it depends on what your looking for. The Ybike wins for stability, but the Zum has better steering and can go faster (may or may not be a good thing). The larger wheels of the Zum also mean that my kids can easily ride it on the lawn in the back yard. We got this bike for $50 at Costco.com, but it doesn't seem to be available there any more.

It's a good design that you can flip the body of the bike to fit different sized kids. The one thing they could have done a better job with is the seat attachment design. I found it a little difficult to attached the seat. It's a tight fit and not that eazy to adjust. I could only give it 4 out of 5 stars due to the seat.

Having said that my son loves it!
