Book Description

After years living of living in Los Angeles, novelist Nix Carter returns home to Connecticut to care for her ailing father. As she reconnects with childhood friends, she encounters a window washer who also happens to live in a mansion, throw lavish parties and go by the name of Zorro. Yes, Zorro. But is he really the caped man of legend? Or just an eccentric who drives a horse-drawn cart and wears a cape while washing windows? And what will happen when the townspeople who once flocked to his parties and drank his champagne become suspicious of him?

A contemporary re-visioning of The Great Gatsby, Z is a smart, quirky novel that has it all: comedy, drama, romance, adventure, even swordplay. Lauren Baratz-Logsted at her best.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"Z's a very different book than anything I've ever read before. It's unique and will keep you reading to find out what happens. It's one of those books that you become slightly obsessed with, because you need to read that last chapter... If you are looking for something unique, with cute twists and snarky turns pick up Z." ~ Wicked Little Pixie

"Do you love stories like The Great Gatsby and The Mask of Zorro? Lauren Baratz-Logsted has combined the two books together to bring you a modern rendition called Z: A Novel." ~ The Phantom Paragrapher

"Just finished Z: A NOVEL by Lauren Baratz-Logsted. Still a little knocked sideways. So eccentric. So unpredictable. SO good. Wow!" ~ Irene Preston, author of Infamous

"I will say, I couldn't stop reading Z...Z: A NOVEL was a fun story for me. Once I began, I didn't want to stop until I'd reached the conclusion." ~ Andrea, The Bookish Babe

5.0 out of 5 stars Captivating & Clever April 20, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Z is a great read for many reasons: First, it's a wonderful story, jam-packed with romance, adventure and mystery. Second, Baratz-Logsted plays with two huge literary figures--Zorro and Jay Gatsby--and somehow rolls them into one character and makes it work. (Where she ever got the idea, much less made it work so brilliantly, is a wonder to me.) Third, she sets him against the very human and lovable character of Nix. Fourth, she makes it all totally modern and relevant. This is a smart, laugh-out-loud-funny, well-written, compelling, quirky and wonderfully imaginative book. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars You cant stop reading it May 3, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I was truly obsessed with this book once I started to read it. It is the weirdest, funniest and more mysterious novel I have ever read. You will laugh, you will sigh, you will think at some point you are reading a book about a love story between a ghost and a human been. Highly recommended. The only think I can criticize (and I would love to hear a reply from the author) is why it has such a sudden finale. It seems like one day the author didn't one to continue anymore. When you reach the final of the novel you keep wondering if you just read the first half of a novel. Where is the rest? I mean...I know there is no rest but you ask yourself...what the author really resolved at the end?.

I'm not sure what I expected from this book but it was a fun read. Lots of quirky characters and a wonderfull unexpected love story. An interesting look at what people will do to be noticed and part of a group. I enjoyed this read it was fun and relaxing. A change of pace from the usual mystery and detective books I read. If you are looking for an excape from reality and an unusual love store this is the book for you.

More About the Author

I was an independent bookseller and buyer for 11 years before deciding to take a chance on myself as a novelist. While trying to sell my books, I worked variously as a Publishers Weekly reviewer, a freelance editor, a sort-of librarian, and a window washer. My first novel, The Thin Pink Line, about a woman who fakes an entire pregnancy, was published by Red Dress Ink in 2003 as their own first-ever hardcover. It was published in 11 countries and was the first book from any Harlequin imprint ever to receive a starred Kirkus review. I've since had over 20 books published for adults (Vertigo), teens (The Twin's Daughter) and children (The Sisters 8 series, created with my husband and daughter). Recently, I've published a few ebooks as well, including a comedic romance for adults, The Bro-Magnet. I live in Danbury, CT, with my wonderful husband Greg and my equally wonderful daughter Jackie.
