Not your typical Gilberto Gil album...,
By DJ Joe Sixpack (...in Middle America) - See all my reviews (TOP 500 REVIEWER) (HALL OF FAME REVIEWER)
This review is from: Z: 300 Anos De Zumbi (Audio CD)
A relaxed, somewhat frivolous set of incidental music taken from the stage production of a musical ballet honoring the legendary Brazilian slave rebel leader, Zumbi. MPB superstar Gilberto Gil, funk-samba pioneer Carlinhos Brown, avant folklorist Marlui Miranda and producer Rodolfo Stroeter collaborate on this light mish-mash of Afro-Brazilian and world-pop styles. Typically, this sort of production has at least one "real" pop song in it somewhere, but not so on this album. Didn't do much for me, but folks looking for something nonlinear and soundtrack-y might enjoy this.
