The greatest wealth is health.
~Virgil Winter time is notorious cold and flu season. It is essential that preventative methods are in place to help combat unseen germs. Through Elise Marie Collins's An A-Z Guide to Healing Foods: A Shopper's Reference you are able to learn what fruits, herbs, and vegetables help prevent certain illnesses and diseases. This book is an invaluable resource. It lists each item along with a detailed explanation of its health benefit. As an added bonus there is a section entitled "What to Eat: Ailment Treatment and Health Maintenance". This section lists common ailments and diseases. It educates the reader to learn how best to treat each ailment. An A-Z Guide to Healing Foods: A Shopper's Reference is a valuable resource to overall better heath. It provides in-depth knowledge that allows the reader to immediately put to use what they learn. A huge benefit this offers is all the items mentioned in this book can be found in your local supermarket or health store. I highly recommend this book for the health conscious individual.

I purchased An A-Z Guide to Healing Foods after falling in love with Chakra Tonics, another book by Elise Collins. What I love about this A-Z guide is that such extensive research across several fields has been complied into a very well-organized and to-the-point reference guide.
Each healing food is listed with a description of the benefits, and even a few useful preparation tips. The entire guide is riddled with interesting facts such as the most/least contaminated fruits/vegetables, importance of a food's ORAC score, and the benefits of eating locally grown seasonally produced foods. The book includes a section broken down by ailment treatments and health maintenance including everything from ADD to Cancer to Liver Detox. There is also a useful Vitamin and Mineral chart at the end of the book. An A-Z Guide to Healing Foods is a great replacement for trying to google home remedies for whatever ailment you or a family member is suffering at the moment, its far more useful and very educating. Dedicated to my health, I have challenged myself to incorporate a few new foods from the guide into my grocery routine. Sidenote: I hope whoever was in charge of the cover changes it soon though, the cover definitely doesn't reflect the modern/youthful/'on-the-go' flow of the content (and doesn't match the fun cover of Chakra Tonics).

Everyone Should Have!,

What Zagat's is to restaurants, this A-Z Guide is to food (only so much better because it is full of nutritional facts, historical data, fun ideas and preparation tips). As wife, mother, food lover and organic grower - I find this book invaluable. When preparing a meal for my family or guests, it is my reference. My son asked why there were so many sprouts in the salad and I knew just where to go and what to answer. When making decisions about ingredients to buy or what to place on my grocery list, I use this Guide. I always have lemons and ginger in the house now. The section addressing ailments and health maintenance was very pertinent when my husband was diagnosed with diverticulitis. It is also wonderful to share with customers the nutritional value and health benefits of certain produce. And listing the most contaminated fruits and vegetables makes you think twice about purchasing certain conventional produce!
This is a perfect book for our time. There is so much interest in food, there are so many health/food related issues and there is such a need for good information. This is a smart, fun, enlightening, refreshing resource that everyone should have! |
