Product Description

From the Manufacturer

From Japan, this is a drafting card game that is non-collectible. Card players love to draft and this game offers them and others a chance to do that in a non-collectible format. Using awesome original, manga-stlye art (another appeal to players), each player will draw 5 cards a round, pick one card then pass it to the player on the left. Use three of the cards picked in a round and start building points. Draft to the right and left again until 20 cards have been drafted and 12 have been used. A story will unfold and points will be scored. Who will get the most points and therefore tell the best story? Includes a never before published variant by Magic: The Gathering designer Richard Garfield.

Product Description

Shadow threatens the world of Dragons, Fairies, and Knights. But this time you are in control as you draft cards from one or more factions. By choosing your forces wisely and anticipating your opponent's picks, it is within your power to affect the outcome of this...Fairy Tale. This card game provides a great introduction to the concept of drafting that, with a quick playing time of 30 minutes and a fantasy theme, makes it an ideal game for all types of gamers.

This is a great card game for people who don't play fantasy card games. I never had any interest in collectible games like "Magic," but the appeal of a game where every card you need is in the box is great. Two-player is nice, and it makes a great group game. I very much appreciated that there was a beginner's version before you step up to the advanced cards. Note that this game requires good eyesite: a lot of the details are very small at the bottom of the card.

Fairy Tale is a fun card game with great drafting system. To draft a hand you basically pass the first 5 cards dealt to the left and then the right taking one card at a time to create your hand. Then you proceed to lay down 3 of your highest point cards one at a time taking turns between players. You go through 4 drafts like this before you finally score. Of course there is combos, random values and various combinations of cards that will give you higher point values. The cards have actions such as flip or unflip and hunt. These actions can cause much trouble for you or your opponents. If your cards are flipped face down when you go to score you discard them and get no points. I found this card game fun with 2 players, but I think it really shines with 3-5 as card actions really kick in at that point. The game cards have great Anime type art (game is originally from Japan) and the quality of the cards is top notch and will last a long time. The game is easy to learn and even has a basic game to get playing fast, it also has team rules.

Ever played in a booster draft for Magic the Gathering? Liked how that required a lot more skill? Because no net decking there. You had players who had to make on the spot decisions if a card was good or not, and is good in relation to your deck.
Now let's say you love the draft idea, but hate spending tons of money on Magic. Welcome to Fairy Tale. At the end of the game you have 12 cards played on the table. You want them face up, although some might be down. You draft 5 cards a round. But you loose 2 of them each round as well. The game plays for 4 rounds. The Japanese artwork is pretty sweet. And the game plays fast. The only downside is a common one to many games. A moderate learning curve. Especially for inexperienced gamers. Still though, this game is worth picking up. A+

This game has a very unusual mechanic - it's just building your deck without actually doing anything with your deck. At first, at the end of the game, I felt I wanted to say, "now what?" Once accustomed to the idea, it becomes a very enjoyable game. It proved to be a very good game for playing on an airplane trip. The art work is very nice.

My wife and I both enjoy the game a lot.
