5.0 out of 5 stars a concise survey and great reference
I clicked the "click to Look Inside!" button and after reading two of the essays then decided to order the book. However, I have owned prior editions of Rookledge's International Handbook of Type Designers, which as the introduction states, "this book succeeds." And it succeeds many times better. 3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed in Content
This book is extremely attractive, and offers a huge variety of type faces to look at. It's fun to page through, but I was annoyed to find that the title refers to the biographies of the designers, while giving very little material on the aesthetic and design aspects of the faces they produced.

Personally, I'm not very interested in the lives of these men...

I clicked the "click to Look Inside!" button and after reading two of the essays then decided to order the book. However, I have owned prior editions of Rookledge's International Handbook of Type Designers, which as the introduction states, "this book succeeds." And it succeeds many times better. This book is a great quick reference to historic and contemporary type designers, each entry includes all of the typefaces designed and a biography that is short and concise and each entry is nicely illustrated with captions for the illustrative art. The eight essays are all well written and enjoyable reads.

This review is from: An A-Z of Type Designers (Paperback)

Personally, I'm not very interested in the lives of these men. I reviewed this book in a store before I ordered online, but I was so taken by the design of it, I didn't read enough of the text to see its weakness. Shame on me!
