Really wanted to love this product...,

let me say first that i really really LIKE this product and wanted to LOVE it...but theres 2 issues that are deal breakers for me and caused me to return it.Deal Breaker 1 = if you want to use the ipad handheld/without propping it up on the stand, then you need to set the case aside. The ipad will not lock into the case when lying flat (the ipad doesn't really lock into it at all regardless). It doesn't even rest evenly in the case laying flat, it kind of rocks around on the curved back. This is a major issue for me - as i really wanted an all-in-one case. Deal Breaker 2 (which i could overlook if #1 was resolved) -- when you have the ipad in storage mode (ie., the screen is laying flat) -- the ipad does not feel like its held in securely. Aside from the fact that back of the ipad is exposed, If feel that if i put the ipad in my handbag in this case that the pad would fall out. You would need to put this into an additional travel case or ipad sleeve of some sort. Based on my issues above, i really don't even consider this an IPad CASE, its more of an IPad stand. If i was reviewing this solely based on quality & versatlility as a stand, then i'd give it 5 stars, but as someone who travels often and is using the ipad out of the house, im giving it 3. That being said, this is a really great product to use as a stand around the house or laying in bed. There are multiple viewing/typing angles and the ipad does seem secure when propped up (i even walked around the house with it and it didn't feel like it would fall out). Its also a nice looking and well made product -- it matches the ipad almost perfectly, is lightweight, and sturdy. If Zagg comes out with a version to solve the issues above then i would definitely buy this product again.

The Zaggmate is very well thought out and well made. The iPad fits very snugly into the lid, in fact it takes a little effort to get it out. Each of the positions the hinge offers are great - perfect for reading in bed! It fits great in a laptop bag and keeps the iPad well protected from bumps and scratches. In fact if there's any drawback it would be that the aluminum lid can scratch but so what? All in all, a great product.

Nice but a little pricey,

After trying two different folio-style cases for my iPad, one with a built-in keyboard, I decided it was time to find something better. I recently switched from a folio-style Kindle case to a sleeve so I could hold my Kindle "naked." You can really appreciate the design and lightness of a device if it's not shrouded in a half pound of plastic and faux leather! So I began looking for sleeves for my iPad. I almost bought a Timbuk 2 sleeve since I have one for my Kindle and a matching messenger bag, but I absolutely HATE the Velcro Timbuk2 uses on all their stuff. If they could have used a magnetic catch system I would've bought one in a heartbeat. So I found out about the Zaggmate cases. I'd already had a case with a keyboard in it and I rarely used it that much. I'm not a blogger or author, and I think toting around a keyboard kinda defeats the purpose of a slick tablet. Plus you have to constantly worry about it being charged. The Zaggmate with keyboard adds about ¼" to the thickness of you iPad. I noticed that the Zaggmate w/o keyboard only adds 1/8". I like the fact that it was very thin and the aluminum would protect my glass screen so I bought one. When it arrived, my first thought was "I can't believe I paid 55 dollars for basically an aluminum tray with some foam in the bottom!" I immediately hated it when I tried to prop my iPad up against the little plastic teepee in the center and it kept sliding down. I was about to fire off a nastygram to Zagg but when I went back and looked at the box, I realized you had to prop the iPad from the other side of the case to watch videos! One way allows you to have a shallow angle so you can type on it. The other way gives you a higher angle for watching videos and such. Once I figured that out, the Zaggmate does offer several comfortable angles and seems very stable in use. The box also stated there were little rubber feet I could affix to the outside of the shell to keep it from getting scratched, but I looked everywhere and couldn't find any. I wish I had because the case will get scratched pretty easily if you slide it around on a desk or table a lot (like if you rotated it 180 to show someone across the table). In fact, the first day I had this, I tossed it in my Timbuk2 messenger bag and went off to work. At lunch I pulled it out to show a coworker and there were already faint scratches on it. But better the Zaggmate than my glass screen! To keep the back of the iPad from getting scratched (since it is exposed while stored in the Zaggmate), I bought one of Zagg's leatherskins. Again, a little pricey for what it is, but it I like the textured grip it provides and it does keep scratches off my iPad. So, the Zaggmate without keyboard is great at protecting your screen, the foam liner will probably offer some shock protection, but I think the price is a little steep. This would be a no-brainer at 25 or 30 bucks. Since I've already got a few faint scratches on mine, I'm obligated to keep it now I guess. I think I'm really going to like it, and I think if the outside gets too scratched, I can always apply a vinyl wrap or some stickers to it. Perhaps a thin, rubbery skin would do what the feet would've done and provide some grip when using on tables and such.
