Very difficult to install without imperfections (please see 3-month UPDATE to my review),

Have read the reviews here. I should have listened to the one-star reviews. This thing is very difficult to install. First, it's very difficult to correctly position the shield on the iPod touch. Any small misalignment will be very, very obvious after the shield has set. Second, even with all the care in applying the shield there will be many many bubbles which will be very visible. It makes the whole ipod ugly especially the back. In short, it's not worth the price and hassle.
____________________________ UPDATE (May 29, 2009): I've had this product on my iPod touch 2G for several months now. I would like to update my review based on almost 3 months of use: 1. re "many many bubbles": I'm glad to report that the many bubbles that I described in my early review have disappeared. They started 'magically' disappearing after several weeks. Now, all the bubbles are gone. 2. re "difficult to install": I may have had difficulty in installing and aligning it because I did not spray enough of the liquid. So my advice is to take extra, extra care in installing it the first time and don't scrimp on the liquid spray. I am therefore upgrading my star rating from 1 to 4 stars.

I loved the idea of the invisible shield case when I saw it. I thought it was a little too much for my liking, but hey amazon had a good price with free shipping and you get for life warranty on it. So it would be a good deal to try it.
I've had it installed for 5 days now and here's the PROS and CONS. PROS: Gives your IPod 2g a safe shield that compliments the device's ooks like the black and metallic details. You probably loved the way your IPOD 2 looked when you unboxed it. So shiny and impeccable, you would love to show it off just like that, but there's no WAY you were going to carry it around without any casing. So this case helps that you can show off a little bit. Scratch proof. Works, but don't try it at home. CONS: Doesn't cover %100 of the surface area of the IPOD 2g. There are some parts that are left uncovered. Bummer, but that was ok. It was just a little tiny space along the side. Hard to install it perfectly. After I had it installed, I saw a couple of bumps on the screen, mostly when I was reading e-mail when the screen was white. When I was gaming I didn't notice any of the bumps. Recommendations: Please sit down to install this. Seriously. You cannot do this in a hurry and I learned it the hard way. It's gonna take you a good 20 minutes to do it properly. From unboxing to squeeging out the liquid from under the Shield. It's good if you sit down and have a table free of lint to do this on. Be patient and it will be worth more of your money when you finish installing. It might not be perfect but the more time you take to do it calmly and the more you get the area around your IPod clean the better off you'll be. Be careful no to let dust and hair get it in. It will look horrible. So overall good buy, should be cheaper though imo.

Seriously, this is the best iTouch investment I have made,

I was hesitant to invest yet another [...] on my iTouch, but the thought of scratching it all up was simply a non-starter, so I took a gamble. This think ROCKS! It's basically two sheets of heavy duty plastic (I want to say mylar, but I am not sure) and you get a high quality squeegee, which of course you only use once--that seems a waste, and a little plastic jar of some liquid that looks strangely like saline solution (But I wasn't brave enough to take a sip). And then some instructions, of course. It does seem a lot to pay for 2 pieces of plastic, but wait until you drop your iTouch. I am fanatically happy I got this when I did.
You clean your iPhone or iPod (I ended up getting one for each), peel the plastic sheet and wet it with the mystery water, and carefully apply tit to your phone/pod. It is almost exactly like tinting your own windows. Placement is a bit of a pain, but you can keep trying. It took me three times to place the front, and about seventeen to place the back panel. I see that some people think the cover makes it look cheap, but I would personally rather have a 2% discoloration (mostly psychological anyway) than a SCRATCHED iPhone or iTouch. The small circular plastic dot at the bottom (see product image) can also be applied, but in retrospect I wish I had not. The plastic is nearly invisible, it is super tough, and it acts like a mini-cushion against shock when you accidentally drop your iToy, but I still recommend a sleeve or jacket. When you run your finger along the front screen, it is not as smooth as the glass, but it's something you get used to, and it is definitely better than a scratch you can't repair. I can't recommend this thing enough. It really is worth protecting your [...] investment. Thanks for reading

Durable but that's about it,
This review is from: ZAGG invisibleSHIELD for iPod touch 2G, 3G (Full Body) (Electronics)
I purchased an Invisible Shield for the face of my Ipod Touch 2G. It was not difficult to apply and I did end up with the finished product they advertised. However, it isn't invisible by any means, I installed it perfectly and there were very tiny little ripples/dimples that made it less than invisible. I contacted them and was told that this was normal for the product. In addition to the ripples the shield picks up tons of finger prints and smudges because it has a somewhat soft/tacky feel to it. The Crystal Film cover from Power Support I replaced it with is every bit as durable, plus it's shiny smooth like glass while resisting smudges.

Great product,
This review is from: ZAGG invisibleSHIELD for iPod touch 2G, 3G (Full Body) (Electronics)
Here's the deal. Everybody on here that is complaining about bubbles and how hard the install is, and nobody has suggested an alternative. I purchased this thing from best buy for 25 USD, and then I had them install the full body shield for 15 dollars. They guarantee their work meaning if you are unhappy with their install after a couple days and there are bubbles you are welcome to return the item, and get refunds, this helps with Zagg CS trying to tell you they wont cover improper installs, and it just looks better then most people can do. Granted not every best buy employee is any good at installing, but if you are smart you can ask that the most experienced associate install for you and 99% of the time they'll help you out.
As for the product itself, it's great. It does add a different sort of texture to the touch, "tacky" is a good word, little thicker, not quite as smooth (instead of gliding your finger will ever so slightly catch, but you get used to this), but when paired with a case it's a pretty great setup since you don't have to worry about the corners not being completely covered. All in all I've been very happy with the performance of this product, it definitely adds a sense of security and removes any bit of worry from putting your ipod in even the most cramped pockets.

Zagg's new sponge method far inferior to previous spray method,
By ravenclaw27 (Massachusetts) - See all my reviews
This review is from: ZAGG invisibleSHIELD for iPod touch 2G, 3G (Full Body) (Electronics)
As someone who has used Zagg's previous spray bottle installation method before using this new sponge method, I found the new sponge method far inferior to the spray method. The sponge kit doesn't even include a card to remove excess fluid as the spray bottle kit did---clearly a cost-cutting measure for Zagg. The spray bottle method was quick, easy, and left no air bubbles whatsoever. I read and followed the directions very carefully and I also had experience flawlessly installing the Invisible Shields (with the spray method) on 3 other family members' devices, so I knew exactly what I was doing. The sponge method was awkward, difficult to install and left many air bubbles which are still there after 48 hrs. (the box states that air bubbles would be gone in 24 hrs.)
Now I have to buy a new screen cover for my Ipod Touch because Zagg's warranty will not cover a bad installation with remaining air bubbles. Guess I'll buy from another company. I will never again buy from Zagg. Based on this experience, I would NOT recommend the Zagg Invisible Shield. They used to have a great product but have ruined it now with a new lousy installation method. I would give this a zero rating if I oould.

I'm not a brutal reviewer, honestly... I had high hopes due to decent reviews when I got this for my itouch 2g, and it wasn't that tough to put on, I followed the instructions, and it went on OK. The product itself just felt/looked terrible once on there. It's not smooth, you can see an orange-peel type texture in the light, and it's got this rubbery feel to it which makes skimming through pages on the touch harder since your finger kinda sticks to the surface. I pulled it off in less than an hour after application and through it out.
I replaced it with the Boxwave anti-glare shield, and that went on nicely, and looks great, paired it with the removable bottom case by incase, and it looks and feels great.

"Invisible" it is not,

I bought this product to install on my Touch 2g. I was patient in my installation but became very frustrated at how difficult it is to align everything square. Now, it is on. There are no air bubbles but invisible, it is not. The screen has a constant, dull glare. And whereas I used to be able to lightly touch the screen to activate icons, I now have to press harder. The instructions also tell you to press the edges to allow them to mold to the device. Well, all the "molding" in the world won't make mine stay put. The edges keep loosening.
Would I recommend this? Yes/maybe. Would I buy another? No. Next time, I'll get a case instead.

Alright, I'm one of those guys who hate having cases for this beautiful device so I thought I would buy this product and protect my ipod from daily scratches.
First, the installation process is a pain, really. it says the bubbles go away after 24hours, yeah most of them, but some of them will still be there and it does not look nice at all when you look at it. Second, if you really care about the look of your ipod, this plastic cover is everything but nice Last, if you also buy one of those pouches to insert your ipod in, forget about it. the plastic will stick against the side of the pouch. it took me 30min and i almost ruined my ipod by trying to remove it from the pouch. I ended up removing this stupid plastic after 2 days and finally bought a clear plastic cover that clips on the back of the ipod. it is almost invisible, protects the ipod against scratches, really neat. |
